I have an 05 TL and having the same problem. It only occurs when the car is not moving and you have to turn the steering wheel (i.e. when parallel parking). I'm thinking its a CV joint as well, but I'm a little suspicious since the problem started occurring shortly after I got the power steering recall done.
I'm looking forward to what you find.

i had this problem, a cracking/creaking sound when the car was on when i was parking. it turned out to be a bad serpentine belt tensioner pulley.
try this: when you are parking the car pop the hood. leave the car in "D" and pull up the parking brake. turn the wheel while you are standing outside of the car with the window down and see where the cracking sound is coming from (make sure you pull the parking brake up hard so the car doesn't go anywhere). if it's coming from the passenger side engine block where the serpentine belt is then it's the same problem i had with the tensioner pulley.
my car didn't make the noise in "P" and it only made the noise after the car was driven and warmed up so i heard it when i was parking in my garage.
