Automatic shifter problem '04 TL

Whats up guys. Lately Ive been having problems with my shifter. I would drive to a destination just fine and when i park i would throw the shifter from Drive to park but the problem is that it wont go into park. It feels like theres something in the way making it not go into park. I would have to drive the car for about 30 seconds and it would go into park. A mechanic told me it wasnt a tranny problem, he said its the shifter box thats giving me this issue. Does anyone know or has been thru this issue ? Is it really the shifter box or tranny ? BTW my tranny was rebuilt 2 months ago and it hasnt given me no issues at all just this not going into park issue but its only sometimes not all the time. Help ? Thanks

Not sure about the A/T but I would guess that there is a shifter cable. I would have a look at the cable bushing on the transmission to see what's going on down there. I had a similar problem with an older car and I discovered that there was no bushing or nut holding the cable end to the transmission lever on the trans! It was just free-ballin'! How absurd that it worked at all!

If that's not where the problem is, I would then inspect the shift lever inside the cabin to see if anything is damaged. If you don't have any driveability problems, then I wouldn't suspect that there is something wrong with the trans itself. Let us know what you find!

I had the same problem, but the cause was the little plastic "ring" under the shifter. it broke off and gets wedged between my P... so i just either shift out and back into P or ill get a knife/pen to move the plastic away...
