97TL Upper dash/drivers air vent rattle. Any1 experience this?

I have this rattle that's driving me crazy. It seems to be coming from the upper dash, driver's side area, and it's not the center speaker, that one i padded down with care.

I did notice that the rattle does go away when i close the driver's air vent (to the left of the steering wheel), so there's definately something going on there. I'm not sure if the plastic vent tubes are bouncing or tapping around behind the plastic air vent cover, or what's going on. Thing is, it seems to be weather affected, i made 3 appts so far at my dealer, and everytime i get there, i could not duplicate it, but it's definately there.

If anyone's got any insight on this I'd forever appreciate it.

-Chris

its the metal strip on the driver side vent. There is a TSB on it, check the 3G garage.

csmeance: Do you mean this TSB?

If so, I've already applied that, didn't fix the problem.

YeuEmMaiMai: Which is the A-pillar? I read alot about the a-pillar, b-pillar and so forth, but im not familiar with them.

I hear this rattle mostly in cool conditions, usually in the evening when it's about 60F or so, I'm in Chicago.

Thanks for your help

a pillar is what supports the sides of the windshield.......some people have had problems with the airbag module and wiring behind there causing rattles.....

In my 06 it was inside the vent itself , same with an 07 that I detail .

Grab the vent and pull it out and put foam around the duct work, between it and the housing around it . Then put the vent back in.

Once the vent is out hit the are with your hand you will see where it vibrates and put foam there.

Jesstzn: There are 2 vents, one smaller one at the top (seems flat) and a bigger square vent underneath the smaller one on the top. Should I foam the top, bottom, or both?

I did sneak in some folder paper towels all over the place and that stopped the rattle except in the colder evenings, then its back, but not as loud. It's definately in the vent somewhere.... seems like it's the smaller vent close to the upper dashboard if I'm not mistaking. Hey, I'm getting warmer

Bigger square one .. it just wiggles out . The rattle from it will seem like it comes from everywhere.

I noticed that too. Any more news on this voigt?

I took mine to the dealer 3 times already, still there. Seems to be effected by weather though, on rainy days its always there, bright summer days nothing!
