3rd brakelight cover question

I just pulled by 3rd brake light cover down from the headliner to clean the lens any some bug debris and now it won't go back tight against the rear glass. I had to pull real hard to get the cover off,and i know I didn't break any of the tabs off,I even took it off a 2nd time to look at the tabs, and made sure that the tabs line up with the holes/slots in the lens main body. Is there a way to make it go back tight against the glass? It's real noticeable when you put the break on(how much red light escapes the cover and shines on the glass). TIA

I checked just like you said...2 white plastic pointed clips(one on each end) and 2 small thin flat, more like locating flats about 1.5 inches towars the center of the cover. I don't see what I could be missing here.

This seems to be a problem for people that take the light out and try to reinstall it. I have heard others who have had it taken out for tinting that couldn't get it to go back right. I haven't heard any solutions so you could try and rig something or try and ask your dealer. They would probly charge you unless you let them think it happen for no reason. lets us know what you end up doing. Goodluck.

Mine required a pretty good smack to pop back in. Line up the clips with the holes and push up and it seems to go in but not quite all the way...right ? Then all I did was give it a firm, upward pop with the back side (pinky end) of a fist. Problem solved. (My fist is calibrated from years of such experiences so easy does it)

Your mileage may vary.

i had the same problem... i figured it out later in the day -- you need to bend the rubber part that rests against the glass back into position. don't try pushing up where the clips are; just try physically bending the plastic piece itself. you should be able to bend it back into place, and it will stay.

I tried bending the plastic(seems more like a rubber gasket to me)and it tore away from the plastic housing itself. I got it to go back on and now it's worse than before. Maybe I need a new one...they're less than $50 from Acuracarland.com. I never should have messed with it in the 1st place

I'm sorry to hear that... the plastic housing is the portion to which I was referring to bend. Sorry if I was unclear on that.
