2006 TL 4th gear slipping
2006 TL 4th gear slipping
Hey guys anyone have this problem? When I drive my car in automatic and hit about 50km/hr. I then put the car into manual drive which usually defaults to 4th gear anyway...
The problem is that I can put the pedal to the floor from that gear and my RPM's shoot up but my speed doesn't really move. Is my transmission screwed or what, and has anyone tried doing this? I just got my car 5 days ago pre owned with 70,000 km on it.
I thought Acura fixed the problem with the 3rd GEN TL's and their bad transmissions. Anyway I hope someone can help me before I kill the dealer that sold me it.
Other then that I do love my car and would hate to have major problems. Oh and any Maintenancetips timing belts etc...would be great from people that have lots of exp with this car.

Yup, check the fluid first.
If it is low or black, then that is trouble. It might be trouble anyway - it only takes one slip to ruin a clutch pack.
If you area has a lemon law, then I would take it back or have the dealer put a new tranny in it.

Does it get stuck 100% of the time that you switch into manual mode? My TL has twice gotten locked into 4th gear without having the ability to accelerate but when I slow to a stop and go again all is normal. I notice too that when I coast at 50-60 and slow down the shift from 4th to 3rd can be a noticeable kick that pushes you forward in your seat. I'd love to replicate for the dealership cause they won't do anything until they can feel it themselves.
OP your post is confusing. You're shifting in manual mode once in 4th gear for what reason? 4th gear isn't whipping anyone's head back if that's what you were expecting. At 50 kmh you shouldn't be in 4th, you should be in 3rd. I believe that's still within range for 2nd as well.
If you truly believe there's an issue then provide more detail. How does it operate when you stay in auto, does 4th slip before shifting to 5th? As a new owner I suggest doing a 3x3 followed by changing out your 3rd & 4th gear pressure sensors. Pretty much treat the TL like it has never been serviced.
