'08 Headlight Adjusters

Hi,

Probably a stupid question -- but is there supposed to be a phillips screw to adjust the headlights? I see the hole to put the screwdriver, but when I shine a flashlight down there, all I see is an exposed plastic gear. I tried turning this gear with a philips screwdriver, but all it did was start to damage the gear.

Thanks

it shouldnt damage the gear. that thing is made out of some type of metal. Maybe the plastic around it. You have to make sure you have the screwdriver on an angle not straight up. This is best done at night with lights shinning on a wall

Well, I've tried everything -- can't get it to move. Seems to be frozen -- did damage the gear somewhat. It's a really stupid design.

it actually isnt a stupid design. If you use it correctly, it wont break.

you cant blame something for breaking if you dont use it correctly. I work on a lot of headlights every week and I have never messed up the adjuster

next time you need help, take pics and ask questions before proceeding. If you feel like you still dont know, take it to someone who does.

The reason I called it a stupid design is that there is no precision slot for a philips head, just a sort of exposed gear. I stand by that statement.

I guess I just expected something a little more refined.

Sorry I didn't see that third line. Point taken.

Actually, now that I look more closely at the diagram, I believe there may be a piece missing from my adjuster assembly. There's nothing to guide the screwdriver onto the gear -- just a large hole, and the exposed gear.

I'll get some pictures soon. It's just a bit of the gear tips damaged -- probably nothing fatal.

this is just an image I got from google, but this is how it also looks on the TL headlights:
The gear is metal, so I find it hard to strip that piece
