Angry 08 Acura TL - Tighten Fuel Cap error message

Yes, I've seen this discussed before, but everyone gives replacing the Canister Vent Valve Solenoid as a fix...and it didn't. Error message randomly came on one day, about 4 months after I bought the vehicle. I Googled the problem, found this forum and replaced the Canister Vent Valve Solenoid (or Purge Valve Solenoid, whatever you want to call it) with a brand new part. Still got the error message. I just bought an OEM gas cap to replace the old one....still getting the message, and now it's every time I turn the car on. Any other suggestions???

Did you buy the OEM one or an ebay/amazon knockoff to save money?

Good question. I bought one from Ebay that said it was an OEM part, came in a Honda labeled bag...looks legit to me. Acura wanted $37 for a gas cap and I got this one for $8.

Wait, are you thinking the gas cap is the purge valve solenoid? If so, that's your problem.

Is the OEM part number for the purge control solenoid valve. I would get it everyday, replaced with this part and have been error free for 3 years now.

LOL no. FIRST part I replaced with the "Canister Vent Valve Solenoid" (that's what Auto Zone called it), also known as the Evap Purge Valve whatever.....That didn't work. I still got the "Tighten Fuel Cap" message after I replaced it...so THEN I tried replacing the gas cap, and that didn't work either.

I've heard too many complaints of aftermarket Purge Control Valves, from AutoZone et-al, which do not operate correctly. Buy an OEM valve and call it done.

Thanks for the replies. I suppose I will have to pony up and buy the OEM part.
