06 MT tranny problem

I purchased the car used a few months ago with a comptech shortshifter installed by the previouse owner. Everything was great, untill I noticed a piece of my door handle had fallen off from drinving. The car is only at 15000 miles, so I figured the warranty would pay for the handle peice.

I got the piece for free under warranty, but when I got there they told me my transmission and clutch were going. They gave me an estimate of $3500 and said it wasnt covered under warranty because of the shorshifter installation. Is there anyway I can get around this and get them to cover my transmission.

I feel stupid for not taking the thing out before I went to the dealer, but I thought would only look at the handle, not the transmission. I dont want to pay for what the previouse owner did to my car (dropping the clutch, amatuer installs)

Any way I can get the warranty to cover it (maybee take out shortshifter, and bring to another dealer)

Any advice would be great

I don't see how a short shifter would void the warrenty as it only affects the length of throw of the shifter. More than likely the reason the clutch and tranny are "worn out" as the dealer put it is the result of abuse by the previous owner.

IMO... you might want to remove the short shifter and take it to another dealer.

...or just take your lumps and pay the $3500 (not recommended)

They have to prove that the failure was directly related to your modification.

What kinda SS is it? If it's comptech it should be covered by the warrenty...atleast it is for the RSX's .

Whats the problem with the Tranny/Clutch? If its just grinding in certain gears...like 2 to 3rd or somethign like that just swap the tranny fluid for something better (honda kind sucks).

The only symptom is that 3rd gear will slip out as I ease the clutch out maybee 1 out of 5 times. The previouse owner said to put in new tranny fluid and it would be fixed. I am kinda skeptical though, because the tires are already bald with only 15,000 miles. This makes me think he was dropping the clutch alot and burning the tires out.

I somewhat feel the service guys are trying to hustle me, but I dont want any further damage to my car. I feel I have been cheated, and they should honor the warranty.

Any ideas?

PS - It is a comptech shortshifter, but it was installed before I bought the car. I have never seen it, but he told me it was comptech and he bought it off ebay.

First off 1 out of 5 is A LOT and needs to be looked at.

Even so, unless the work + parts is being covered under warrenty I'd go swap the fluid just to be safe. 3rd gear was my issue in my NEW rsx type s, same issue accross the board for other TL drivers and RSX's. I took it to the dealer for this issue, the tech there recommended the trans fluid swap to a different brand (under warrenty) without me saying a thing except "Hey my 3rd gear pops and sometimes my 2nd gear grinds". If its just 3rd popping like you say, no slippage (clutch) then just swap the fluid, you'd be surprised at how much that can help. My car felt totally different transmission wise and I havnt had a problem since.

My car had a comptech SS in it and a CAI at the time I took it in. They never questioned about either mod or tried to blame it on anything else.

Don't be fooled by that crap, try a different dealer. My thought is that you're getting screwed over. Search the forums I'm sure theres a bunch of guys here whove had the 3rd gear problem as its rampant in honda 6 spd's. an SS isnt going to cause this, my car did the same thing before the SS install.

Hope this helps..

That won't work if the original dealer has already made a notation in the system.

Magnussen/Moss has some interesting twists in it. For example, if you were to put a supercharger on the car and you break the drive train, you're screwed. I don't care what caused it. Simply put, you are driving a car with a hp rating the manufacturer never built. Thus, they don't have to warranty it. But let's say all you did was use a different brand oil filter and had an engine failure. In that case, Acura would be required to prove the filter caused the failure. I would suspect your shifter would fall under the second scenario since you haven't changed the basic performance of the vehicle. If you had tranny problems related to shifting, maybe. But not the clutch. No way no how. And with all the problems they've had with these trannies, they don't have much of a leg to stand on. Take their butts to arbitration.

Did you purchase from dealer or previous owner directly?
Clutch is considered a wear item like brakes and abuse is not covered, short shifter or not.
I'm not so sure dealer is screwing you, you may have done that to yourself.

I was thinking the same thing but I've seen guys on the RSX forums have their trannys swapped and their clutch (either to stock or the aftermarket by the dealer) and still wind up with the same problem that was related to the trans fluid.

OP still around or did you sell your car
