the car adapts to the way you drive; if you constantly drive it like your racing it, at 50% throttle it'll shift to the lowest gear and get you going. However if you drive like "grandma" a bit of the time it'll only downshift a gear or two.

Try this:
Get in the car and turn it on; turn off all accessories such as A/C, radio, heater, etc.
Then turn the car off.
Then put the car in "position 2" where the lights and such are on but the motor isn't.
hold the gas pedal to the floor for about 30 seconds.

after that turn off the car, then turn on to where the motor cranks and is running. Take it for a spirited drive. This resets the transmission learning so you'll have a fresh slate.

Yeah... Been having the same problem off and on for a while.

I've reset the ECU a few times/switched out the 3rd and 4th tranny switches. But I'm still having intermittant problems with the down-shifting

I'm thinking it could be:

1. Solenoid assy., AT shift lock 54040-sec-A81

2. Switch assy., Parking Pin & shift 35740-sec-A82

Before I replace above parts..... I'm going to take them out and clean with electric cleaner and see if that might due the trick

Yup, first thing I'd do is reset the ECU and csmeance already mentioned it in the thread.

Hey,

Where were you able to order the 35740-SEC-A82 part? I have a p0958 code coming up, marking that part as an easy fix. Had a kid spill jalepeno juice down the shifter. Took the area apart, cleaned it...all is shifting fine, but the code stands.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

If everything functions fine, clearing the code should be all that's needed.

If you floor it from a stop does it feel strong? Or, go 40 then put it into 2nd via slap shift, then floor it... Something to try, I guess...
