05 TL Motor & Transmission Mount Replacement Question

My son was recently confirmed that his motor mounts need replacing. We are thinking about replacing both the transmission and motor mounts at the same time. Tons of good advice here and on Youtube, so I feel like we can do it.

Question, can they be replaced at the same time or is it better to do the motor mounts and then the tranny mounts or vise versa? Looking to find the best replacement pattern. Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

I am of the opinion they can, and should, all be changed at the same time; that's the way I did it on my TL (which because it is a 6MT has six mounts instead of five).

Thanks for the response.

After reading my post I realized I needed to be a little clearer with my second question. If we replace all five, how should we go about it? Replace the front, then middle, then back motor mounts following by the tranny ones or should the tranny go first then the motor mounts? It probably pretty obvious once we get in there, but since I have never done TL mounts I need some help.

They don't all need to be done in one day, but to keep the process simple I say replace the transmission mounts on the same day as you do the mount by the radiator.

The passenger side mount is very easy to handle, and can be done on its own at any time.

The mount by the firewall is the most time consuming but not terrible. You'll want to get a couple of socket extensions so you can reach the 4 bolts from under the hood.

In my experience of doing a transmission swap it would be best to drop the subframe to change the trans mount which will make the engine mounts easier to get to. It should be a day or two job depending on the tools you have access to as well has seized bolts on your exhaust pipe if any, this is if you do it this way which i see as the only way possible. Make sure u secure the engine with some sort of support beam or hoist from harbor freight, goodluck
