What caused motor mount and tran mount failure
Inspection of front end reveals multiple mount failure. Car constantly knocks during shift from 2 to third gear and poor gas mileage I want to fix and also prevent this mount issue. Any suggestions or advice.

its a design failure.
Honda doesnt know how to make beefy mounts.
as the engine rocks back and fourth; it will wear the motor mounts out.
after market companies have alleviated this issue by making a material that is stiffer than factory mounts. however; they will still wear out over time.

OP, look into XLR8 solid motor mounts or Innovative Mounts....
if you have a stick, you can also get the ingalls stiffy which is an engine torque damper...
I do agree that you will get vibrations and though the mounts....hello massage chair

please come back to realty... people want smooth vibration free cars and at the same time more power. high horsepower engines in a compact space = more stress on mounts... especially when one is hard on the throttle
ALL manufacturers have this problem...
putting in solid mounts = more vibration, something people don't want in their cars.
my 94 accord @ 200K+ still has it's original mounts. CL-S had then replaced at 118K. One car has twice the power of the other....

Not all. There are many cars that make tons more power then the CLS & they don't have sold mounts or any mount problems. In the CL's case it's because of the FWD setup & the engine design & power it makes. Ever wonder why there's 3 of them? Because they couldn't be bothered to design mounts that worked for this application.
Taurus and Sables eat front mounts as well... replacement below 100K is common...and they make significantly less power

typically i noticed some significant vibrations after 200K miles for most of the cars - I havent replace motor mounts in less than 130k miles. This indicates that honda might either inferior quality motor mounts or design issues.
