05 TL knock

Has anybody had rod knock with one of these cars? Has a noise that really sounds like knock coming from what I think is the passenger side of the engine, always had regular synthetic oil changes, approx 160k miles. I have seen a few videos of timing belt tensioner ls that fail and sound kind of similiar. When cold started it seems quiet for about 15 seconds and then the noise starts up. I don’t believe it is Piston slap because it stays until the engine is right up to operating temp. Thanks

The only way to find out is to dive right in, and we can't do that for you

Just wondering if anybody has spun bearings in these engines and if it’s a common thing. Didn’t really think it would be. Tensioner failure looks somewhat common

a spun bearing is not impossible...
meaning; lack of oil, high RPMS and excessive heat can cause a spun bearing...
Did that happen in your case?
it would be a case by case basis...so it's not impossible.. it can and will happen.
but in general, no...it's not a common occurrence.

and the only way to find out if one spun a bearing would be to tear down the engine.
the only way to figure out where your noise is coming from is to dive right in...the easiest place to start would be the tensioners and crank pulley..
so check the pulleys out...

Short of running the engine low on oil, no, spun bearings are not even remotely common with J-Series engines, in fact, they are well known for running hundreds of thousands of miles with just basic maintenance.
