04 TL - Rough starting
I have a 2004 TL with 99k km. I just got the car 2 months ago and noticed when I start the car in the morning it kind of has a rough start. I have no issues cranking it over and it never stalls on me. But it's just not 'smooth' when starting. It kind of shakes a little. However, the car drives smooth and haven't had any issues.
Additional Notes: I'm not sure when the last time the spark plugs have been changed. I did a B2 Service 1 month ago. Like I said, I only had the TL for about 2 months now.

Depending on the severity, but a slight vibration/roughness is normal with the elevated idle speed..
A search will provide all day reading, but here's one to start:

Mine does it too. I mentioned it at the dealership and they said it was normal and even brand new ones did it. I think it has something to do with the computer intentionally delaying the starting in order to reduce wear and tear, tho I'm not sure how that would work.
I bought mine used - from day one I just did not think that it started the way you would expect a 3.5 RL engine to. They cleaned the throttle body. That helped a bit. But after that, the issue seemed to slowly reappear. Complained about it again when my transmission went out. Have not asked them what the repair was, but it has helped quite a bit. It was listed on the invoice as:
11 Engine Minor - 18927 CA
Someone may be able to cross-reference that and give you some insight as to possible alleviation of the issue. I know we are talking different year model/engines though...

maybe to get the oil flowing faster? ... i know that it idles higher to get everything to proper operating temps faster, so that may add to the rough start. i would think as long as it smoothens out in time ur good to go. if it idles rough after its heated up, then you may have some other problems to look into

The engine intentionally mis fires to throw raw gas on the cats to assist in getting the cats warmed up and working. My afr gauge catches the tail end of it since it takes 15 or so seconds to warm up itself.
I wasn't going to bother posting but you're right. We have one of these threads once a week and judging by the responses you would think these guys had never read one of them.
