04 tl auto, rear brakes

68k miles on the tl and rear brake pads have dug into the rotors. I drive 100 miles a day on straight highway, so normal wear is not the issue. I'm not 100% but I thought the brake dist. was about 80-20. front pads are at 50% at least. Why would my rear factory pads be doing this and should I complain to the dealership? I have the platinum warrenty.

Did you purchase the TL new? Sure the front brakes were never replaced? No use complaining to the dealer as brakes aren't a covered item at that mileage.

Your car has 'electronic brakeforce distribution' EBD which adjust braking front to back depending on how the car is loaded. The old 80/20 is no longer valid with EBD.

The EBD only distributes the pressure between the front and rear depending on how the car is dynamically loaded. The fronts will still do most of the work as the rotors are bigger, pads are larger, and also on the type S, 4 piston calipers only on the front.

The front pads were probably changed at about 40K and the rear's were never changed since they had a bit of life on them. Many people do this and forget about the rear's until a problem happens. If you feel that they were changed and something is wrong, have the dealer check for a sticking caliper that stays in the braking position.

I bought the car used from the dealer.. and is was certified.. so the rear brakes had at least 50% left on them at the time.. since then I have put 30, 000 on them. I am going to replace them regardless.... so I guess I'll check for any prob. while I'm down there.

There in lies the problem, the car was purchased used and the estimate of 50% was probably inflated, if they even looked at the brakes.

on my 04 ther rears go WAY faster than the fronts. when my rears went (40k ish) I assumed the fronts must be gone as well so i bought for all around. to my dismay the fronts had TONS of meat left! i changed them all and now, again. my rears are on the squeakers.
yes i purchased new.
yes i know how to properly change/lube brakes so no i dont have any hanging calipers.
