'04 Acura TL headlights wired wrong way
i live in the fort worth dallas area and i bought a tl a few weeks ago i got it for a good price the only thing that was wrong with it was that the wiring on the headlights was opposite to wat its supposed to be...........and i decided i would ask you guys for help since the dealership is charging me 700 dollars to re wire it and they wont guarantee if it will work.......i really need help and im new to acuras but im not a noob i just dont want to fry my igniter.....if anyone can help i will be really appreciative
because when i put the regular lights on...the high beams go on....and when i put the high beams on.....nothing goes on....and theres an aftermarket hid kid installed so its wired wrong so my regular lights are high beam....the normal ones never go on
Are you talking about the Interior or exterior lights on the headlight. The Exterior lights (projection) are the Low/High beam and the interior is the fog. If someone put a aftermarket HID kit in. Chances they put it in for the fogs and a few things may be wrong with the normal headlights. Both bulbs could be out, the person you go the car from took out all of the HID parts (i.e. balast, ignitors, and bulbs), or someone went in and screwed everything up like you said. Im going to go for option 1 or 2.
Remove the bumper and see what's going on with how they wired everything......I bet something is wired wrong......a local mechanic shop can check it out for you......you have to troubleshoot,I would start with that hid kit they installed
Yeah I didn't know that the headlights had foglights in them.
But the exterior lights don't work only the interior lights do and I don't know how to take out the bumper and I also need to get the navigation and radio code before I remove the battery plug because I don't know it.
I love this car but this minor issue is really killing me. I'm really trying to avoid the dealership because they over charge and the fact that they can't guarantee if its going to work was a no deal for me because I still have lights and they are actually pretty nice but I just want it to be the right way just incase they go out soon plus I read on the tl garage that to take out the headlights is kinda difficult and I moved to texas recently so I don't have any tools I have to go to a car care center in food hood and rent a garage with tools I just need soomeone experienced who knows what they are doing to help me since I'm clueless when it comes to igniters and aftermarket hid kits

That sounds so weird. The difference between high and low beams is just a shutter in the projector that move out of the way for high beams. The bulb itself is always lit and the same intensity/direction.
You'll need to remove the bumper to see most of the wiring and like someone said, you should be able to see what was hacked up.
The fact that the dealer gave you such a bogus answer is a sign to stay away and find another.
Look in the glove compartment for the codes. You can also get them if you have the serial numbers.

I'm thinking someone did a halogen "conversion" before you bought it and wired up the fogs to be the main headlights and were too cheap to replace the HIDs or get them fixed.
Someone else had a similar problem with a car that they bought used..turned out they put halogen bulbs inside the projector and wired it up w/o HIDs.
for the navi code you will need to go to an acura dealer to verify you are the current owner in order to get it (if you dont have the little card with the codes).

Or go here --> https://radio-navicode.acura.com/
I guess I've got to go to the dealer to get unlock code for the nav and radio first then I can remove remove the bumper and try to see what is wrong. I honestly don't even know what the oem wiring looks like so ill just be going off common sense. I'm going to try and remove what is connected to the HID kid and see if it fits the headlights. I don't know if the original ballast or igniter is still there and I bought some high beam lights because I first thought that was the problem so I can probably go off those. If it doesn't work I might just take it to a local shop and try to get it fixed. The more I read about it the more I'm getting worried that it might be deeper than what I actually thought it was. I was on the oem site and there is parts that cost $200 for just one and if I don't have the right kit I might just spend a great amount of money for the headlight parts wtf
Ok I'm going to take some pictures and post them here when it gets dark and I'm also going to take pics of the wiring inside the hood.
And can anyone help me get the serial number of my navigation? The dealership told me the only way is to remove the radio which is going to cost 60 dollars. I'm sorry if there is a post already made about the codes I'm on my phone so my versatility is extremely limited when it comes to navigating to other forums and threads

Audio Unit Serial Number Retrieval
For certain models, the dealer may have placed a label with the device serial number on a sticker inside the glove box.
For year 2001 and later models, you may obtain the serial number from the device display. More about retrieving from the display
For models earlier than 2001, the serial number is located on the back of the device. This will require a trip to the dealer to obtain the number.
*from the same radio navi website.
Turn ON the device and confirm that the display reads COdE. If you don’t see this message, pull the backup fuse for 1 minute, and then go back to step 1.
Turn OFF the device.
Press and hold the 1 and 6 radio preset buttons, and turn ON the device.
The display toggles between two screens: U with the first 4 digits of the serial number (U2200 for example,)
And L with the last 4 digits of the serial number (L0055 for example.)
Ignore the U and L and record all 8 digits

these are the 2 pics of the wiring of the headlights you can see some wires are not even connected and the grey thingy is the aftermarket kit.......there is a video im currently uploading of the headlights and different functions that i performed and how the lights reacted i will post it here as soon as its done uploading its taking forever
the first pic is for the passenger side and the second is the driver's side that circle is glare n the pic is rotated 90 degrees cuz it wouldnt upload cuz of the height

From the video it looks like they wired the fog lights to be the main light source, and totally unplugged/deleted the projector lights.
My guess is that the oem ballast crapped out and the old owner wanted a cheap fix, and bought an aftermarket hid kit for the fog lights.
Like others have said, take the bumper of to see how everything is wired.

Are the original factory ballasts still there? Can you see if you can find the harness for the OEM ballast? Hopefully the original harness is just plugged into a relay which would eliminate most of the hassle. Are there any small wires coming off the battery terminals?
and screw whoever did that to the car.

im going to check that out tomorow and as far as the car i bought it knowing it had this problem i just didnt think it was a big deal at first. i took the car to a garage and did a thorough inspection and everything was pretty much stock the previous owner actually maintained the car pretty well from what the dealership told me so i dont know why they would do that to it after having a good track record. i met some dude at the garage who said he will help me to try to resolve the problem he was pretty experienced so i will give him a call on sat since he is free
well i finally got it fixed
the person who had rewired the lights didnt do it wrong.......he just installed the bulbs in the wrong place. the fix was actually easy after we took out the bumper and headlights
now all the lights work i just forgot to plug one of the hazard lights on so it only works when its blinking but ill fix it up no big deal thanks guys i appreciate the help
