Removal

Has anyone tried to remove the side protector thingys that run from the front door the end of the rear door? The bar that protects the doors? Is it painted underneath? If I remove them, will I need to repaint?

Most are painted and just glued on these days. Old school cars used to be screwed into the body. You will need to repaint if paint is faded on the exposed part.

body side molding? its painted underneath. and yes like el pic said if there is severe paint fade a repaint will be in order. before you do that, get the car detailed (paint correction detail) to see if it will blend back in. if your paint is in good shape you just have to clean up the mess the side molding left behind. good luck.

Body side molding! Thats the name. Haha. Thanks fellas. Do you know what kind of glue they use? I'm going to try peeling one off and if I cant get it to work I'll put it back on.

Anyone have an idea?

wait, you want to take them off to put them back on? just leave them off. BSM makes the car ugly (IMO). i believe its the similar adhesive they use for the badges. add a little heat (haridryer) and floss or fishing line and use in a sawing motion to get it off. you really can't re-use the adhesive that is on them as far as i know.

to pop it off:
hair dryer
dental floss

to put it back on:
3M tape

as TLtrigirl said, BSM are not pulled off very well.....so leave em off

^^ both of them are correct. To remove the left over glue or adhesive on the car just use goo-off.

Thinking of taking them off of mine (along with the debadging the ACURA and TL emblems), but given they've probably been on there for 5 years... not sure if there'll be any fade once I remove them. maybe it won't be too bad with ASM? nothing like a cheap tanning tattoo using a sticker. :-\

i would think if you took care of the paint on the car...or the paint was taken car of (if bought used), then the fade would be negligible.

^^^ all over bro....all over

apart from that hair dryer heats up the glue in the dual sided tape and hence helps it come off easily

why would i be offended? my love for cars comes from my brother, and a number of other males in my famiily. my dad also worked in the industry. i have an uncle that is a corvette guy...always had and currently has a corvette...runs his own tuner shop for vettes in norcal. i'll take it as a compliment

BTW...i think i might be the only woman that doesn't own a hair dryer.

BSM on acuras is a dealer add on, like pinstriping, anyway to make a few extra bucks.

i know huh? people want it for the "door ding protection:.

my door ding protection...park way the hell far away from everyone and walk.

some folks dont' really care about the lines of the car...its bad enough i read about MDX owner's putting NON-matching body paint BSM to their cars (ie black BSM to a white MDX-please dont' cheapen your car by doing that ).

unfortunately, my BSM's were already on the car when i purchased it. i actually wouldn't mind them, but the color of the BSMs do not match the car.

i'm not sure... they match only at certain angles. If looking at other angles, the BSM's do not match at all.

Oh well, I spent an hour and a half tonight and pulled off the BSM's. looks so much better.
