'04 5AT slipping will '05 fit.

I have an 04 TL with 5 speed auto transmission. I think the tranny is gone!!
A friend of mine has an 05 tranny that has 20k miles on it for a really good price but called a junkyard one time and they said 05 would not go in an 04. Ive been searching this site and googled and cant find an answer.

The other night I put it in D and felt like it was still in neutral, so i put it in N and back to D and she drove fine. On the way home i get a check engine light and scan it, come up with a P0741 code for (torque converter clutch stuck off)and code p0746(pressure control solenoid performance of stuck off). Car has 169k miles on it and already had a tranny replaced over 3 years ago at100k. Acura will not goodwill this one....not looking to spend 2600 for a transmission when im selling the car.

Ive kept up with fluid changes using the 3x3 method and even swapped the filter out at 145k.

Yes it will. People who work at junkyard are generally idiots.

You may think that they are idiots, but the cross reference book specifies 2004 only, and that the 2005, 2006 ,2007, 2008 are interchangeable between these years.
Good luck

Digging here...Yes an old thread. I have searched so high and so low. Is this true? Is the reason bell housing bolt pattern, electrical, or other reason? Anyone? I am stumped why I can't find answers (even at the dealer) to the actual changes in the trans and why I shouldn't put an 04 engine in an 08. (non S). Thanks.

I dunno about the interchangeability between 04,05, and 06, but I definitely know 07-08 is much different than 04-06, it's the "updated" one from the RL, and its the same in the type S. HIGHLY doubt it'll fit, but even if it did, you'd be downgrading to a much weaker transmission

as for the engine, it's the same for all 04-08 base TL from what I read, but then again, why are you putting an 04 motor into a much newer 08?

I have the 08, bought it with a bad engine. Found a incredible price on a 04 engine (1/3 of the price of any 04-08 I have seen) and I knew the history. If it doesn't work its not a huge loss or will find a new home for it, but I want to know before I try and install in the 08, and use the 08 trans/ECU/everything else. But I am having the hardest time finding straight answers. I am okay with changing parts between the two engines if needed, but if it won't bolt up to the 08 trans, I would rather know before I have a car with the subframe/engine/trans out sitting on my garage floor. I don't care that it is from an 04 since all the engines are very good. Transmissions, not good from an 04. Thanks for your reply!!!
