I hear ya. My wife and I just got our cars last year plus we just refinanced our mortgage, so it's gonna be a looong time before I can take a "breather" like that.

I went ramsey plan a few years ago and got all my student loans and small stuff paid off then attacked the small card and then the big card. I bought my car for the hell of it even though I didn't want a payment. My truck has been paid off for quite a few years and would have had van paid off sooner but tranny went out last fall.

Still on plan to pay off TL in 2 years so by next May should have it knocked out.

It has been a tough road and thankfully the recession of 09 and into 10 in my business wasn't too bad. With steady oil prices over the last year I have had the best year yet. Instead of buying all the stupid stuff I wanted I reserved it to a few things for the car.

My savings account has thanked me.

Anyway not trying to brag or rub it in. Just verbally saying that I am very thankful for the position I am in and glad that I get to take a 2 week vacation and take my kids back to the beach and let them enjoy themselves.

Having 5 kids in this economic time has been really stressful thats for sure.

Holy crap 5kids! I don't have any and it's hard to pay for everything... Glad you made it through ok. My business has survived ok too but we made sure to keep it tight and not over spend these past few years. However these gas prices are not making anything easier these days especially when premium is at $4.59 a gallon

$4.59 per gallon would equal $1.21 per liter (which is how gas is sold up here)...I wish that's what I was paying.

The average in Toronto now is around $1.31 per liter which is $4.96 a gallon for Regular.

Premium averages $1.41 per liter which is about $5.33 per gallon

I don't really complain about gas prices considering I work in the oil and gas industry. It means job security but the downside of these higher gas prices are the other side being the crash that follows. Seems they are getting closer together in timelines.

That and this being an election year is really concerning more than everything else. 4 more years of Obama is not going to be an economically stimulating time.

But the world is going to end again in December so who cares.

Hey do you guys know what a typical 105K service would cost which is the timing belt, spark plugs and valve adjustment if needed?

the local acura dealer is quoting me $1227 does that sound appropriate?

Thanks!

^^it actually all depends on the dealership...try calling up local Honda dealerships see if they have any specials going on......if you were out here withing the tri state you could get it done for half the price..

That sounds like the price of a timing belt water pump and maybe spark plug 105k service with parts and labor from a dealership.

You also should drain and refill coolant and replace drive belts and check crank/cam seals and such as well while that side of the engine is opened up and replace any item that is leaking.

I used to not change tensioners with timing belts but on these v6 engines the tensioner is just as important to change as the t belt and water pump anymore.

My odyssey van with the 3.5L v6 has 192k miles right now and I did the timing belt and water pump at 142,000 miles and everything still looked brand new except the plugs. I won't be doing it again. As soon as my car is paid for I am selling the van and replacing it with a Yukon XL.

But the van has no oil consumption or leaking issues and the motor is still running very strong with no valve ticking (valve covers have never been off). I have all service records from previous owner.

Stick by your scheduled or regular maintenance and don't short cut it and you will have a very long lifed motor.

I was in Fredericksburg this weekend visiting some people and I spotted a KBP TL-S, NHBP TL-S and a WDP TL-S. On the way back through Richmond I spotted another KBP TL-S. It's like I spotted every TL-S in VA in one weekend.
