Well.. after looking at the switchback LED 7443 bulbs sittin' on my desk for over 6 months... I finally decided to introduce them to my headlights...

how exactly does it work? it looks like you can pick to use either white and orange or just orange blinkers.

It's a really cool LED bulb that has white led running lights, but orange led blinkers. It's called the switchback from www.autolumination.com

NO... you DO NOT have to take apart the headlight to make them fit... but you do have to remove the headlights from the car... IMHO

You basically, have to make the socket attachment on the headlight and lense opening (inside headlight) bigger... I used the "jptl04" soldering iron method to achieve this... it's nice and clean and very effective... then I used some silicone to attach the switchback bulb to the factory connector (socket) because I didn't want it to come lose after a while of driving etc... it just didn't seem snug enuff when I inserted it... then I used silicone to attach the bulb/socket to the headlight because I basically melted away the tabs that the socket used to twist onto...

I've washed my car and I don't have any leak or fogging as of yet...

How long did it take you to do that, or should take you to do that since I know it wasn't straight work start to finish? And if I use that method and silicone, can I go bulb again afterwards (if the leds go out early or cause probs)? Would I have to buy the whole socket assy again (if I reverted), which I am going to go out on a limb and say they don't sell separate from the headlight assy? Once I'm in, I'm all in? Damn sure makin' me wanna...

The socket could definitely be used again for the regular bulb... however, you'll have to reseal it to the headlight with the silicone or glue gun... 'cause you will never be able to use the twist-on & twist-off method again... ... Why would you ever want to go back again, nephew!!! it's like... once you go WDP... you'll never go BACK!!! :wink:

The headlight assembly has notches in the frame where you insert the bulb socket... and you basically align the socket to the notches and insert and then twist to seal... in order to fit the BIG bulb into the headlight... you have to melt off the notches... so IT IS an ALL in type of deal... no big deal... SILICONE the socket to the headlight assembly... you know the 'ol school method of HID conversion before the PLUG and PLAY era....

You definitely need to use the resistor, if you want the blinkers at the factory speed... I mounted them behind the headlights... then I saw the speed without them and decided not to wire them up... I kinda like the hyper speed... I purchased them from http://autolumination.com/equalizers.htm when I got the switchback bulbs... I have the 6 Ohm Deluxe $6.99 ea...

I did the same thing, except that it was much more drastic ... and I had to do the same to the headlight frame where the socket connects to...

I expect to be doing this reaaalll soon! That damn parking light pic is the hotness! This might add a really nice contrast look to my "stealth" theme. I love my silver/amber bulbs...but there is admittedly no comparison! Funny things is, I could've been first with this! Hahahahaha! Chris tried to tell me when I was getting my lights cleared/blacked that I should use that led Rod is using. I didn't want to because I didn't want to have to take my heads off if something went wrong (i.e. resistors, led or whatever). Imagine that...I punked out on this mod "after" I butchered my bumper cover (which is mo money, mo money) LMAO!!

Damn, Imma be thinkin' about those damn lights all day!...

 

That reminds me...can you do a vid and post it of them blinking at hyper speed? If it's cool, I want to do that move. But if it just looks like those old cars that had that feature, nah, I'll pass on that. (in other words, if it just looks like my shit is broke) LOL!

Those lights look insanely good in there. I bet that's such a nice match to the headlights in-person. Man, I'd love to do this. I really am done modifying my headlights, though, since they're so clean right now (I really don't want to go back on that work and mess it up).

The brightness on those things looks like they're as bright as regular headlights.

sweet bro, good work there rodneyc77. the switchbacks look insane. i can't belive you had them for over 6 months before installing! they must be huge if you had to melt away the notches, silicone should keep any moisture out though. i have blinkers on my side mirrors so i put the resistors in so they would blink in inison. now that you and i have done this mod i think alot more people will be willing to try it. they're f-ing bright aren't they?

for people with cleared out headlights i think these leds are the brightest bulbs out there.

I don't know much about the TSX... but, I believe that it uses the single filament 7440 bulb as the turn signal...

So NO you can not have this effect with the switchback bulb which is intended for dual filament bulbs...

AAAHHH! I am going to scream in jealousy! I too had the switchbacks staring at me for 6 months. Yours probably hypnotized you and said "Don't be a laaazyass. Go and install me damnit, you know it'll be a bitch but do it, get it over with and turn every head in sight"

I was going to ask you to post a video before but you knew better and did the deed. AWESOME! I'm sure theres no substitute for seeing it in person but that video has me drooling already. I see we have the same taste in music too (I always did think that high-hat in "Shook ones" sounded like a turn-signal click, good choice!). You even did the sidemarker signal mod..........OK I have to log-off now!

And I thought I could be the first to do something around here? Serves me right for living in cold Chicago. If I was in Florida this would have been done back in November.

I think the only thing that will make me feel better is that I will post a DIY for all you guys out there when I get around to copying Rodney. Stay tuned!

Omg! So Hot !

 

It took me about 4 hours because I left my hot silicone/glue gun at home... Most of the time I was waiting for the damn silicone in the bottle to set... and I was in no rush so I did one at a time... instead of starting the next one while the other one was setting... I think that the Henessy I was comsuming gave me the courage to do this mod and make all types of dumb mistakes... lol

Plus I replaced my HID bulbs while I had the headlights out...

Heads UP... check the bulbs operation before hand... 'cause I spent alot of time redoing shit because the switchback bulbs wire leads were not making proper contact with the socket... ya'll know how that go with LEDs... plus you should also silicone the bulb to the socket because you do not want it loosen and fall in the headlight after you're done or driving around...
Also when I did the final silicone attachment of the socket to the headlight housing... I used DUCT TAPE to hold it firmly in place while the silicone set...

How the f do they get off advertising on the site that they fit most sockets ...........not even close to fitting .......those mffers got me so gased them i reread and found your post ..........i had these dam lights when i was clearing my headlights and thought i could take the wheels off and easily change them out ........................serves me right for not taking my wifes minivan to work and making here suffer till the heads were done right........................................

Well, they do say to verify that the opening is bigger than 1" in diameter... I did but I just eyeballed it...

After spending $50 cash for some 7443 bulbs... I had to make it work... even if it meant cutting open $500 headlights...

Special Ed... that's definitely a Classic... ... I knew that most fellas would appreciate it....

 

got them in ..........used a soldering gun to melt the plastic.........weird though the drivers side went in with just melting the black plastic wher the twist notches are and did not have to melt the chrome inside the headlight ...on the passangers side i had to melt both the black and the chrome .......oh well they definatly look sweet and wont get me pulled over........Thanks for your post , very helpful.
