yes the slider, it will tell you how your settings would be compared to 0...Exposure time is the same as shutter speed basically. It really means all the settings together, but shutter speed. ISO is the sensor's sensitivity to light. High ISO would mean you can still use a fast shutter to get the same overall exposure as you would with a low shutter and low ISO. If you think back to film, ISO like, 800 was labeled action because you can basically max out the shutter speed and still have plenty of light.

I feel like I just explained that like shit, but I did explain some stuff in my own thread as to what you asked.

Thanks for that Sean...can't say I understand the whole thing, but I get the gist. I need to play with it (giggity ).

For rollers, I'm thinking that a lot of times people don't leave the shutter open long enough to get the wheels actually ROLLING. A lot of times they take a picture of the car rolling and the rims look still and you can't tell the car was moving. True?

For rolling shots I shoot in Shutter Priority between 1/60 - 1/15. The longer you can keep the shutter open, it will allow for more background blur and will make for some good pics. Here's some examples of two different shutter speeds.

1/60

1/15

I've been missing my old Cobra a lot recently (The one pictured wasn't mine).

That lens is great for portraits, but the best value around is still the 50mm f/1.8.

Yes. Lots of those are because of auto. I like to do them around sunset/dusk because you can still use a decent ISO and a slightly higher shutter. Unless you are in a stock caddy, you gotta watch out for bump blur.

That 1/15 shot is nice. I love the color scheme. I want a red/mint green combo someday which is very close to that.

For rolling shots you def want a zoom lens. I shoot mine with a Sigma 10-20, which allows me to shoot with the car right next to me. If you shoot with a prime lens, you will be fighting trying to get the shot you want.

Yeah the 50 would suck. You would have to use like a F/10 to get the focal area the right size for a whole car. Use your kit lens for it J.

The last 15-20 posts about photography are WIN. I just bought a DSLR myself with an 18-200mm lens. Took some photos of our local meet. Great tips on taking rolling shots. I think that's what I'll try next.

Where in Florida are you guys? I'm in Jacksonville.

I bought the T3i at first with the 18-55 & 55-250 lenses and then had to return it because I was annoyed at not having one multipurpose lens. When browsing and researching what to buy I settled on a 60D just because it had a more frames per sec and higher shutter speed (than t3i). Also, I couldn't find a T3i/T4i with a kit 18-200mm lens. Buying the lens and body separately would have been close if not more than the 60D... so that's what I ended up getting. This is probably more explanation than you bargained for, but I had to get it out... it's been an ordeal deciding. ha ha.

What cameras do you guys have?

It's all good, I'm actually trying to decide between the 60D and the T4i, I like the touchscreen on the T4i though.

I'm currently stuck with a XS lol it's "meh".

Dont know anything about canon so I cant help you decide. I could read reviews and base my opinion off of that, but it would be nice if you could get your hands on one and test it out.

Either way, both should be nice cameras. I Have a friend that has the 60D and she loves it. Im on the other side (Nikon D7000) lol

oh, and +1 for the sigma 10-20 that Predatorbird listed above. Have this lens in my arsenal too.

Yeah I know, if the T4i has a touchscreen like the iPhone I'll probably be sold on it. However since I'm going to be upgrading from this low end XS, I'm leaning towards a better sensor.

It's fate I'm here then because I've basically JUST gone through what you're going through. I kept my T3i about two weeks and I literally just rec'd my 60D about a week or so ago. Here are some things that may separate the two for you(not in any particular order):

1) Size/Weight: The T3i/T4i have physically smaller and lighter bodies. They both feel decent and competent in your hands. The 60D on the other hand is NOTICEABLY heavier. Carrying it around your neck with a strap while it has a telephoto lens on it isn't going to happen for long periods. The 60D has a much studier feel though. When I hold it I literally get the feeling that it is a very 'solid' camera. Feel them both at Best Buy. You'll see what I'm saying.

2) Kit Lenses: This is what finally decided it for me. You can't get the 18-200mm lens as a kit lens for the T3i/t4i meaning you have to buy a body and the lens separate. The lens itself is 699. The 60D was 1299 with the kit lens which was actually cheaper than than the t4i body/lens separate and comparable to the t3i.

3) Video: If you're going to do video, the t4i is supposedly what you want to get. The improvements from T3i -> T4i basically focus on video. Better automatic video zoom on the T4i.

4) Specs: T3i vs 60D They are basically two different levels. T3i has slower shutter speed & slower frames per seconds for action shots (3.7 vs 5.3). The t4i and 60D are much closer in specs though. Same shutter speed (1/8000) and very similar frames per second (5.0 vs 5.3).

5) Layout: The T4i has, to me, an easier layout with the mode selector on the right with no button to depress to change. The 60D is a tad clunky with the selector on the left requiring an additional hand to change scenes.

6) Nikon vs Canon: I'm not sure if this is an issue for you or not.. but it was for me.. read below.

I actually preferred the Nikon over Canon but the Nikon was expensive! The 18-200mm lens for Nikon is like 899. GAH. and the D7000 has the same specs as the 60D but it was just more money and I was already pushing myself to get the 1300 60D. lol

Sorry I typed so much... but eff I had to do it. Comparing for the last two weeks was killing me. To end it all... EVERY website comparison I've been to says in the end... it doesn't matter. Any DSLR you buy Nikon or Canon is going to give you beautiful shots. You just have to sort out the particulars of which one you want.

Not looking into the T3i, the T4i is a step up.

I'm sticking with Canon, I have 4 lenses already and I've been shooting Canon for a while.

I have a D90 Nikon. I want to upgrade to a full sensor frame so god damn bad. I'd have to sell my lenses but it would be damn worth it.

The 18-200 what's the F on it?

To weigh in more, I have an 18-55mm kit F/3.5-5.6, a 55-200mm kit F/4-5.6, a 50mm F/1.8, and a tamron 12-24mm f/4

Anderic, I just picked up the T4i. I've always used a Canon. I actually started with an FTB back in college.

There is a definite learning curve on the T4i. I had to send mine in to Canon to have the grips replaced. Mine was one of the recalled bodies.

18-200 f/3.5-5.6 How's your Tamron lens? I've heard mixed things on Tamron/Sigma lenses but there's been a basic undertone of "If you're just a pro-sumer, they'll be fine."

That sucks about the rubber grips. I've heard that many Canon dslr's have that issue. Where'd you end up buying the T4i from?
