Seriously...that's terrible luck...
Do you have to drop subframe to access some of the bolts?

haha, thank GOD it wasn't a cracked pan.

I bought the car exactly a year ago from original owner who had it maintained at a dealership almost exclusively. I found in one of the service records that they had "found oil pan stripped" and that they had repaired it with a helicoil at 85k miles.

Now the car has 120k and I've been losing about 1/2qt of oil every 5-7k miles when I change my oil. I realized I had a leak from the drain bolt and I called the dealer to discuss. Service manager was really cool and worked out a deal with me to repair it at cost. 90$ for pan/seal/bolt, 50$ for two hours labor and I had brought in my own Mobil 1 EP oil and filter.

They really took care of me; the service manager was really nice and went above and beyond to help me out; its been 2 years and 35k miles since they installed the helicoil and they were not obligated to do anything for me (even though it failed and they never should have stripped it to begin with)

Unfortunately I walked out this morning to drive to school for my last final exam of my undergraduate career and the bitch wouldn't start. It did the same thing last night; turn key, no start. I didn't have time to mess with it this morning so I hopped in a different car and left.

I'm thinking its a starter issue.

to easy solutions though! Nicely done, man!
Couldn't be the cold weather and battery cranking amps with the car having sat lately?

this morning the s2000 was dead too...lol...from the up/down and map lights being on during the soft top reinstallation.

Originally I thought it was the battery but everything else works. PO put in a brand new optima red top about 2 years ago!

I went out there today and tapped the starter while a friend kept trying to start it and it cranked right up. I guess I've now confirmed the issue is the starter. Unfortunately it's like $260 from the dealer (acuraoemparts.com)

Might look into getting it rebuilt as well as other options. Definitely going to stay away from aftermarket ones though. I'm wondering if the starter from any other models will work on the TLS. The 06 odyssey seems to be almost exactly the same. I imagine it's the same unit for a bunch of cars; and luckily it seems I can do the labor myself if the weather is tolerable one day this weekend.

I have a 08 v6 EXL accord I picked up last weekend that I'm getting the engine replaced on. I'm gonna check out the donor motor and see if it still has the starter and whether or not it will fit.

Best thing my father in law ever gave me, a portable battery charger!
Cranked right up.

Quan...have you hit up Bruce? His cost might be a LOT lower than that and might save you the BS of installing one with little life left in it.

Well am hoping things will take a turn for better in the spirit of the holiday season bud....

When you turn the key, do you hear clicking at all? Did you try to jump it? From the sounds of it, seems like the starter, but do give it some taps/knocks using a ratchet extension....

Thanks guys!

Yeah the battery is in good shape. All the accessories and everything work. I tapped it again last night to get it started and it worked. Ordered a nearly new starter from Bruce yesterday. Should be here today

LOL.

You know I read what that after I posted it and I was like "lets see what kind of shenanigans this causes."

Starter came today! Gonna put it in on Saturday. Should be 65 outside.

Probably going to pick up some new GMSMFM fluid and go ahead and do it at the same time since the trans fluid fill bolt is right there. Also will likely flush my power steering fluid while i'm at it.

This "while I'm at it" extra stuff is what kills me!

Well, after a bit of an ordeal I got the starter replaced.

Ordered the starter from Bruce and went to pull mine out the other day. Not too hard of a job, actually much easier than expected and I had it out in less than 20 minutes. Couldn't believe my luck!

Then came the problem.

I can now confirm that 04-06 6MT starters are not directly interchangeable with 07-08 6MT. Lol. The one I ordered from Bruce showed up and when I put it next to the one out of my car, they were not identical. Decided to say screw it and get a new one from the dealer. Called my usual dealer and they wanted $250 but couldn't get one in before Christmas. Called a couple others who wanted $350 or more and finally found one willing to price match AND had it in stock.

Got to the dealer with my old starter in hand (no core charge for me!) and my price match sheet. Cool guy at the counter pulled out the new re manufactured by Honda unit and let me compare the two. Luckily this time it was an exact match.

Came home and had it back installed in a few minutes and now it starts up perfect. Kind of an ordeal but I'm glad I was able to source one before Christmas. Apparently auto to manual starters are different but base to type-s 6mt are also different. I may have been able to Frankenstein my old unit and Bruce's 6mt unit together but I decided to just pay the extra few bucks and go with new. Besides. Who doesn't love the look of shiney new parts under the hood

Not a whole lot!

This happened:

Checked the code, cleared it and it hasn't come back. It's been a week; funny thing is I got the same code last year around this time and a software update fixed it.

also was browsing pep boys and came across this; I bet we all can guess what car is in the pic! Thought it was kind of cool; 5AT silver TL with aspec and wheels.

That carbon fiber look is pretty sweet. Is it just like sticky on one side like tape or do you have to do something special?

Yeah, looks like the perfect drop to keep it comfortable but not have wheel gap.
PS...looks like the exposure wasn't long enough to get the full spinning wheel effect.

Then again, if you've seen the ones Adam/Austin have taken for me, I'm spoiled.
