New Guy From KY!

Hey guys my name is Connor. Im in louisville, KY and i just picked up a 2005 TL on saturday. Im fairly known on s2000.com and i am a lurker on s2ki but i have been reading this site for a while now to learn about these cars and theres an overwhelming bit of information on here.

Anyways I picked this up from a dealer in frankfort and it was an absolute nightmare to get this dealer to cooperate. They had the car listed at 11,800. I went in and test drove the car and took it to my mechanic in louisville to go over everything and took it back and offered in crisp $100 bills 10,000. They wouldnt take it. So i left. They called me on the way home and told me they would do 11,500. I said that they need to get down into the blue book area and i would get it. Well the next day i called them again to see what the status was and they told me 11,500. I thought that was super high for a TL being that there was a 08 type S in ohio for 13k. Well that day i drove to Indiana to look at a light silver tl with tan interior (not a fan) and it didnt have nav but i was running out of cars to see. I went and saw it and i waited for that dealer to find the key for 15 minutes and one guy took me out to it to show it to me. Well i saw it and it was beat up. lot of rock chips, looked like it had scraped a wall on the back bumper and the mirror was scratched too. I told them not to worry about it i wasnt interested because they didnt say that online or over the phone.

Later that afternoon i called the dealer in frankfort again and asked if they would do the 11,500 + tax and they pay the registration. He said they could figure that out and he would call me back. Well i had my girl call one of her friends and they drove us out there.

On the way there the dealer calls back and says that they cant do the 11,500 because the GM of the dealership the TL came from wont approve it untill monday and it would be the 11,800 that they had it listed at. They tell me this 40 minutes after i called them saying i was on my way.. SO i get there and talk with them and look at the car again and i went ahead and paid the full price and ill tell you why in a second.

I paid 12,865 for the car after taxes and registration. I paid cash and they wouldnt move on the price at all. I asked if they would do anything since i paid in full and they said if i was ever in the area they would wash the car. What a great deal!

Well the car is a 2005 base with black interior and nav. Its a ONE OWNER with 79K on the clock and its in immaculate condition. Only flaw is curb rash on the driver rear wheel. The motor is spottless and it runs amazing. my mechanic was blown away.

On to a few pics.

Took off work Sunday and cleaned them both. This was before the wash btw.

I needed a 4 door car for a daily and i saw Rockstar143's on his thread where he was whoring out his S and i knew i needed one

So im excited to be a part of the TL community and learn more about this car.

Time to whore my S

Congrats! Nice choice!

Welcome to Azine!

Funny, I was gonna mention J (Rockstar), owning one of each (although he sold his). Now you do as well as a few others here! A lot of helpful info here, for example the "garage" with all the DIY's!

welcome and congrat, I just can't imagine driving the S2K everyday, especially here in Houston, TX . The road will beat you up within 30 mins.

I also have a chevy blazer but im selling it and thats what lead me to need another vehicle. I never drove the S as a daily but i never would either. Its an absolutely amazing car to drive but it really isnt practical. The ride was never really too rough for me but going from it to the TL is a pretty big difference. I really just like how raw the S is. AP1 ftw

I really wanted to but it was almost 3 hours from me and it was a bit out of budget. After tax it wouldve been alot more than i could spend and i wasnt looking for car payments.

Maybe one day ill wish i got it but im happy with the one i got. Just gotta get me a Aspec lip kit and some other goodies to make it look mean

Ive read alot of frostys posts and his build thread and i really like where he went with the car. Kept factory parts but made it look incredible with them. I really like his fogs and id like to do that at some point

Well...you're a baller now though since you still own both! I might have another S one day...or I'll save up for an NSX, we'll see. I miss the car a lot but the TL makes me smile a lot and believe it or not gets noticed more.

Anyway, I appreciate the credit...I am really happy for the journey you're on.

In my opinion...save for a used set of coilovers...tein is my personal favorite but at the end of the day, the ability to adjust wins and inevitably, since you signed up for AZ...you're going to want to go lower than springs will allow after coughing up nearly 75% the cost of coils anyway. Other than that...I say keep her pristine and don't go overboard...don't even mess with heads or tails...just keep them protected so they don't yellow.

Lowered, spacers...15/25, rolled fenders, aspec and coils and you're golden!

maybe I missed it...6MT?

Nice TL! Too bad dealers have to ruin your fancy new car experience... Forget it, now you've got a nice car!

I agree with you about going overboard. Now i have more time to be able to work on the S. I definitely want to have fun with the TL but the S is my fun car. Sadly its getting put away this week.

Would spacers make it look better without a drop or would that look goofy? I want to lower it at some point but ive already scraped that plastic air director thats under the bumper a couple times. Didnt think it was that low even stock!

But its a 5AT i had my eye on a nice 6mt but my girl is gonna be driving this car more than me being that my work supplies my vehicle and shes not comfortable with a stick yet so that was out of the question.

Update

Hey guys its been a while. Car has been great over the last year with no real issues (knock on wood) other than regular care. Just rolled over 100k about a week ago in fact so that shows how much its been driven!

No real mods other than lumar window tint and debadging the first 2 weeks of ownership. I recently put on the RPF1's on that used to be on my s2k just for the sole purpose that I needed new tires and there were some on them. Still need to paint calipers and clean up the brakes.

The old couple that had this car prior to my ownership took very good care of this car and was garaged its whole life. Dash is immaculate, no body rust, motor is sound and after getting ahold of the last dealership they took it there for all its work and they have a full record which is nice.

About two weeks ago I did some work on the car that involved some drilling and electrical work which I said I would never do on this car but it was worth it. I installed a Hornblasters 740 shocker kit on the car. I know its not something anyone would recommend putting on one of these cars but I couldn't resist. Now before anyone starts throwing at me, I spent a good 10 hours total installing this kit properly. In fact, you cant even tell its on it. No visible switches inside or view of horns outside. Alright well enough talking heres some pics from the last year...

These tires were not big fans of the snow so it got out once.

Love these headlights

Currently working on the navi hack with some new ideas this was the first one.

Solenoid

Horns. Very difficult to place these but after about 45 min finally found a good position for them and the cone of the horns stick right out the vents so its very loud...painfully loud.

The horn has a trigger tapped right into the factory horns and runs inside to a small switch I have mounted on the kickplate right above the gas petal so its out of sight. Switch off and press horn = stock horn. Switch on and press horn = train horn.

Have already been driving around having fun with it. Its so loud 90% of the time people have no idea where its coming from. I like to be behind a big pickup in a parking lot and honk it and watch people look at the truck thinking it was them
