Final Post and a Sad Ending.....
Guys, this is very difficult for me. By far, the most difficult post I've written.
Here is what has transpired.......
Saturday afternoon, I found a Chevrolet dealership in Kansas City that just received a C7 Corvette Stingray Premier Edition car the day before. This was #66 of only 500 every built. All Premier Editions are Laguna Blue, special wheels-the whole 9 yards.
Ironically, this car had NOT been already spoken for. I immediately told the sales guy I wanted the car. He told me that GM had consigned the car, but had not released it for sale, even though the dealership had possession of the car. The sales guy said GM wanted to use it for special events.
So on Monday, I asked the sales person to call GM and find out when the car would be available. He called me back at 2pm on Monday and said that GM went ahead and released the car and I could pick it up immediately.
I called the original dealership that I put a deposit on the red C7 with to see if it has been submitted for build to GM. It had not, so I cancelled my order for the red Corvette that would have been delivered in April. I don't need 2 Corvettes!
Anil took me up to pick up the car later that afternoon to take delivery of the Stingray. Here is a picture of the car in Detail.
At 8pm, I drove the car home. I made Anil drive the car, since he was kind enough to take me up to pick up the car. When I got home, my wife freaked out about the car. It was a bad night between us. She was obviously not comfortable with the financial arrangements I set up in order to purchase the Premier Edition C7. This beauty sat in my garage for one night....
In order to keep piece at home, I returned this "once in a lifetime" automobile to the dealership this afternoon.
Guys, a car is not worth ruining your marriage. Obviously my wife is more important to me than the car. That doesn't mean that I'm not upset, unhappy and mad. At this point, I'm done.......no more 2nd car. I've been waiting for the Corvette to come out since January. But at this point, no more AutoTrader.com or Cars.com. I would have to store any 2nd car I purchased in Anil's 3rd garage during the Winter anyway.
No.....I can't believe what I just did. But I did what I had to do-keep the peace at home. Yes, this sucks, I'm not a happy camper. It's time to move on.........

Very sorry if this rubs salt in the wound (which isn't what I want to do) but wasn't the Mrs. on board with the purchase initially? What happened that she changed her mind? If you don't want to answer, that's cool as well. Was the red Vette cheaper and therefore 'more acceptable' financially?

Fair question....she was on board with the red Vette. But the financial arrangements were the problem.
The red C7 I ordered was basically a Premier Edition car anyway-minus the chrome wheels and 5 piece Corvette luggage set that came with the Premier Edition.
My red Corvette was only $4,000 less expensive than the Premier Edition, so you can see, I really loaded it up!

wow i am sorry for your loss, seriously. that was an unbelievable opportunity just to own one. But completely understand unhappy wife = unhappy everyone.
Did you try the "its an investment angle"?

As I understood, you returned the blue one... and canceled the red one too?
Order another color, may be she might like it
Don't know what to say Steven. Sorry for the loss, happy for the result.

Wow, Steven. I'm sorry to hear that. I am obviously not nearly as wise/old as you so I won't insult you with my own experiences. Betty trusts how good I am with money and trusts me to make the right decisions for US as well. She sat back and approved 100% my purchase of that $50K Audi, believe it or not. Maybe she just knew that my practical side would shine through and she knew letting ME feel like I made the final decision was important. That's exactly what ended up happening.
I got a boner, decided I'd make it work and keep the car, then realized how much I'd miss the TL and how much money I would be forking over every month and how that money would be better spent on our next place, or marriage or eventual kids. I decided I wouldn't. In my humble opinion, your wife is playing a dangerous game because although you appeased her, you WILL resent her for that. You are not a seat of your pants guy...you've put thought into it...you knew what you were doing...you researched...and let's face it...4K for a color that you love and 7 months earlier in a model year of the car (2014 you enjoy starting in October of 2013), meaning you would be able to sell the car for MAYBE 4K more because it's a model year newer by the time you get bored of it.
You should have had the general manager call her and say, hey, we're taking the car back at 10K less...that depreciation is a bishhhhh!
Sorry, I could just hear your sadness in your post. I will say this, although I miss the Audi and it was fun to drive. I love my baby. Waxed her, fixing a dent in the aspec myself, cleaned it all up, got the exhaust tips done...ordered my stuff for my 105K service! Everything to make me love and appreciate and mainly TAKE PRIDE in her.
You still have a fantastically clean type s. You just put your love back into that. Maybe supercharge it with the down payment you had for the Vette. Or maybe consider that RS3 again. At least that one has depreciated already! I've found a lot of times the oohs and ahhs wear out on new model cars and when you start seeing them everywhere, you might have lost the pizzazz on the Vette anyway.
Chin up, Captain

Thanks Jeremy-and thanks to all of you.
I'm still upset this morning, but what's done is done. I don't buy cars on impulse (you are correct Jeremy). I've put a ton of time and thought into this.
I've always loved my Type S-I still do. I'm probably done modding it. I have been for a while.
As people say, "it is what it is......".

Whoah, you really are pissed. Don't bottle that up, man. Talk it out with her. Place your order for the originally agreed upon one in red or yellow or something. You either resent her, or she resents you...only way through it is to talk it out.

You lyin azz mofo, you don't have a backseat. I hope it's monopoly money.
Yes, of course it's for you. You're a good friend. But STFU about modding this car. He needs to order that Corvette or his wife will pay the price in the long run.

Sorry to hear SB, I can just imagine how you feel but nothing happens before its time and what is to be will be. On the bright side, there was no loss of life and your money is still in your pockets. I do agree with rockstar, you should talk it out with the wife than bottling up.

Thanks guys....I've talked it out with my wife. She knows where I stand. Her opinion is different, which she has a right to.
This wound is still too fresh for me to just drop. My sales guy wrote to me this morning and said the Premier Edition is already sold and gone too........
And Anil, you were nice enough to take me TWICE to the dealership. It's 35 miles one way (to the dealership) for me. Which means it's farther for you......just use that money to fill up your tank again.
Thank you for being there for me.

^^^ Dang, how big a tank does he think you have?
Steven, give it a week, sleep on it. See how you feel next week. If you still have that hole in your heart, get the green light to go order what the wife agreed would be okay for you. If you don't NEED 2 cars and don't have children/grandchildren to tend to. Would it maybe be an option to sell the TL to offset the cost a bit. Maybe put something in the new purse/shoe fund?

Guys the Audi would be a replacement for the Type S. And it's running great. I don't see me getting out of that for a while.
With Porsche, it's a great driver's car. But to me, it's not as sexy as the Stingray. And I'm a visual person. I'd take less drive-ability over sexiness! But, to be honest, I really don't think you're losing a lot of drive-ability with the Corvette. It was WONDERFUL to drive. It was smooth driving and it has fantastic low-end torque. It would get up and go when you wanted it to. There is not a lot of drop off from the Porsche.
Anil drove my Stingray-he can tell you the same.

Well, yeah, he could...but we don't believe anything he says
Steven, like I mentioned, go at this again in a week or two. I can tell by the way you're talking you let your wife win this battle, but you're not out of the war just yet.

I would have taken the Vette too. I'm with ya, Steven.
Annnnnd I just read the post up top.
That sucks so much. Sorry Steven but like you said, family > things.
I hope you have a chance at something similar in the future.

^^^ Meko....am not understanding anything you are saying....stop licking Jeremy's puddy while you talk
I dont think its an issue of buying a cat or a purse or a hat...I think at this point talking about a new car is just rubbing salt on his wounds....

Was a joke
We know it's not going to happen. Decision has been made, why force it.
Even if I try to talk to my wife and convince her from a situation like that, each time I see the car I would think about if she really is happy or just.............................................
Oh, Mrs. Bell loves cats

...if that is the case, there is absolutely more to the story. Point blank. I'll never get to drive it so I have no horse in the race. I merely can sense that my online friend seems very down. The $4K difference can't be the only deciding factor here otherwise order for the one in April would be placed again and peace would be restored. She either wasn't all that "OKAY" with the purchase to begin with or there are other factors SB isn't comfortable sharing online.
