A long overdue update.....(11-13-13)...Back to the Type S
I wanted to repaint my Brembo's. So (Matt) McCollins and Swoosh (Anil) suggested I get the G2 paint kit for the calipers. They're more heat resistant and the paint goes on with a brush! Plus, one of my original Brembo covers came off on the rear calipers.
I ordered the G2 kit and ordered new Brembo covers. I went back to the same place I ordered the original covers-only to find a set with 4 covers (2 larger ones for the fronts and 2 smaller ones for the rears). I only wanted the 2 smaller ones, but I went ahead and ordered the set of 4.
Saturday night, Anil and I put the car up on stilts and were ready to tackle the painting of the front calipers and replacing the one rear Brembo cover.
When we took off the front tires, I found this.......
This scared the crap out of me! I was nervous to drive on these two front tires, especially at high speeds.
We pressed ahead with painting the Brembo's. Anil did the brush work and painted them in fantastic order! (Thanks buddy-I sincerely appreciate all you do for me).
We then applied the Brembo decals/stickers and called it good!
When we got to the rears, the other caliper cover fell off. At that point, I said, "lets use the larger Brembo covers on the back. Then they would look more like the fronts."
They came out really well....
I'm really happy with the new caliper covers. Their size more matches the real Brembos up front. They look more "Porsche-like", if you will because all 4 now are closer to the same size.
I ordered 2 new tires (Continental Extreme Contact DWS) for the fronts. The rear tires are perfectly fine. I have a rear camber kit. It looks like I need to look into a front camber kit/adjustable control arms for the front. The new tires are installed and ready to go.
Thanks again to Swoosh-I was so sick all last week and Anil took care of things while I lent a helping hand as much as possible.
Sorry it's been so long since you've seen my Type S. But hey........

You're right Justin.
I've got H&R Sports Springs, so it's a very modest drop.
They couldn't get it set to "0" ........

How much are you overall dropped Steven? Are you on stock type-s shocks? Just wondering because when I transfer over my Koni Yellows and HR Sport Springs I might put the Konis on the upper perches because this is my daily driver in the winter and I've never driven a lowered car in the winter. What do you think? I know Kansas can get some pretty sporadic winters. Brembos and covers look good btw.

Steven, have your lower ball joints inspected. The calipers came out great.

Komodo, I haven't done much to the Type S in a while. I'm saving for a "toy".......
More pics will come-I'll take some better pics over the holiday weekend.

Buddy, I'm dropped on H&R Sports Springs. So it's a very modest drop with OEM shocks. I like your idea though for your car!
Yea, I need to do that more.....
Will do-good suggestion! And thanks....
I only had 25,000 miles on the tires.

Looks good man.
The brembo cover thing is a spreading fire that needs snuffed out though.

With big, painted brembos up front...the covers are simply a balance thing to compliment the real things. Now, if this was an issue of people putting the 4 or 6 (or 8??) pot covers up front over base calipers, I would whole-heartedly agree.

I've had no issues with the Brembo covers on the back. Swoosh and I put them on with JB Weld and are causing no problems.

As good as those DWS are they seem to be plagued with the typical Continental tires problem, never living up to their mentioned tread life. I had a set on my GS with lasted only 30k miles, even when I rotated them on regular bases.

Not yet-will hopefully look into it more this week.
Thanks Earl-I really appreciate it. And yea, I held off for a LONG time on the Aspec Front Lip until I saw the Base TL lip would fit the Type S.
Well, "nothing to do on Labor Day" turned into a birthday lunch for my Mother-In-Law and then washing my wife's Jeep Wrangler....
I did snap this quick pic for you guys today though.

I agree about the Base Lip, guys. The Type S lip was always too big and bulky for my tastes.
