Nah, I don't plan on installing a glass sensor.
Maybe a proximity sensor, but I don't find the need for a glass sensor.

My TL has NOTHING inside to steal.

Anywho, the pounding on the window will set off the shock sensor, which is cool!

Just a small update:

Rolled down my windows for the first time today after I got my tint done like over 3 and a half weeks ago lol

No scratches!

oh no, they say don't roll down for 3 days....if you wait too long the adhesive for the tint overcures though and it's guaranteed that the tints will fall right off the next time it's hot out.

Dang, man...

LOL dude

I don't know if anyone has waited for their tint that long lol

Says something about me... right?
Hell I got worried over my front LED domes remember lol

On another note, I didn't really find a reason to roll down the windows the last few weeks lol.

I'll open the sunroof, though.

I like my privacy

New toys...

Bought the iSIM71 for $36 (shipped) and the iPod touch 1G 16GB for $40 from a buddy.

The iPod has a black spot on the screen, but the touch (digitizer) still works, and I plan on using it for the car mostly. I'll just buy a new LCD off eBay for $20.

Okay so I just installed my iSimple.

I'm having a hard time using it.

When I plug in my ipod it works and plays music but I have no track info.

All the track info (artist, title, etc) say AUX1.

I'm pretty sure it should say iPod or something, definitely not AUX.

The steering wheel controls do work though

I figured it out.
I wasn't in iPod mode. I was in AUX1 mode and didn't know how to change it LOL

ALL is well!!!!!!1

The iSimple charges the ipod even though the car is off, which kinda makes me worried.
Both for the ipod battery and car battery.

Works awesome too!
Best $36 dollars spent probably lol

Good thing I updated the iSimple FW too, before installing.
Despite the cheap pricing of the iSimple, it works FLAWLESS!!

Anywho, this just came in the mail today:

I was thinking about installing it today but it was so bad out today my car is drenched!

It was snowing too!!

J.
Wires into the hood latch switch.
How our alarm functions is that if the trunk, doors, or hood is popped open while the alarm is armed, the alarm will sound.

The shock sensor is like an addition to the circuit.
When there's no impact or anything, the sensor just chills, completing the circuit like nothing's wrong.

When the sensor feels impact or "shock", it trips (sends a signal) the hood latch wire which then makes the car detect the hood was popped open, therefore ultimately setting the alarm.

Pretty cool stuff, and cheap.

Here's a video of the same sensor:

Definitely update your firmware on your iSimple.
Do you have the same unit as I do? (Refer to the picture of the unit I posted earlier?).

If so, the latest update (which I assume is the final update since a new one hasn't come out, and the unit I have is discontinuted) will fix everything.

It looks identical...updated the firmware just now. Will reinstall this weekend and test out if I keep XM, AND able to use ipod AND be able to plug my phone in and run my pandora! That would be effing awesome.

Thanks for the shock sensor tip. I will DEFINITELY look into this as I've been thinking of stepping my game up. Make a DIY when you install please!

How far off base am I?

Good luck with the new firmware!
It HAS to fix your bugs you were having before.
As you know, Canadian TLs don't have XM, but my ipod connector works and my headphone jack works great too (I use Grooveshark on my phone LOL)

The link you provided is the exact same shock sensor, but in addition, it has the killswitch and the led which is COOL!!!

In fact, it's the exact same kit that was installed on the corvette in that video!

I was looking into getting that little combo but then figured that the companies that carried them shipped to Canada for too much money and I could fab up my own killswitch and I don't really need an LED lol

If you're like me, just order the sensor (just the sensor) off ebay for like 10 bucks, and buy a switch from an electronics store.

I'll definitely make a DIY.
It's cheap for the most part, and it's functional!

Most people havn't explored shock sensors on here I found...
On BMWs and Mercedes theres lots of shock sensor talk.

Yup!

You can add as many sensors as you'd like to the factory alarm which is cool, and not talked about too much.

Glass sensor, tilt sensor, proximity sensor, etc.

^^^That's all EXCELLENT information! For 10 bucks, I wouldn't install the kill switch either OR the LED...what do I care...the car has the factory LED anyway. I just want a LITTLE extra protection that any thieves wouldn't be expecting.

About the isimple...I agree...it has to work! I'll leave the center console open all weekend to make sure it's good. I would know right away though...as soon as I pigtail and put it on xm mode, it will ignore me (IF it's not working).

Working on the shock sensor at the moment...

So far I was able to get my wire from the cabin to the hood latch switch.
I then realized the hood latch switch is behind the hood latch cover, so I'll have to take my bumper off to remove that cover and tap into the hood switch wire.

That's when I stopped because I need to buy an "add-a-fuse" still and while I take off my bumper, I want to redo my carbon fiber grill.

So I'll probably head out now and buy the add-a-fuse and then take off my bumper and proceed with the install.

Yes, DIY is in progress too.
It's really simple wiring, though.

Shock sensor is installed.

The only thing is no matter where I smack my car, the alarm doesn't go off even at highest sensitivity.

Maybe where I mounted it, or I'm not hitting my car hard enough. I don't know.

It works though because when I arm the alarm while I'm inside the car, and I stomp my foot (while the sensor is on the ground), the alarm goes off which I'm really happy about to proove it works.

While my front bumper is off, I redid the carbon fiber grill, and adjusted my fog lights.

Hmmm...you couldn't get to the hood latch wiring from inside under the bumper?!?!

Let us know if you figure this out!
I like the idea of the shock sensor AND the tilt sensor too! Can we do both?!?!

I have that same shock sensor wired into my Viper alarm. It looks exactly the same

It is pretty damn sensitive; when a dump truck drove past my car the other day the alarm went off.

Anyways, mine is somewhere behind the driver's side kick panel (where the VSA and mirror switches are) if that helps you at all. I didn't wire it myself so I don't know a whole lot about them

Goodluck! Definitely an awesome idea.

Just did an oil change, and have the bumper back on and everything is back to normal.

What a big day it was for me and the car.

I'm pretty sure you can get to it from under the bumper, but I wanted to take off my bumper to do two things: aim fogs (they pointed to the sky before!) and redo the carbon fiber grill.

You definitely can do wboth the shock sensor and tilt sensor and glass sensor and proximity sensor LOL

Just wire it up the same way =)

Another member on here mounted it where yours is, too.

Mine is mounted to the metal beam right beside the steering column (as for a few minutes ago lol).

I guess the hard part is over, though.
Just need to find a good sensitive place to put the sensor.
Taking out the kick panel takes two seconds lol
