This. I can't emphasize this enough Tyler. Snap away with that Nikon, change the settings every shot to try and get every possible outcome!

Great shots, Tyler. Loved all of them, especially the pizza shot. Be careful with adding saturation...it's easy to overdo it.

Will do Tyler!

And thanks John! Looking back at the pictures, I over did the saturation with the old cars. Blah.

It's raining here now. If it continues, I may have to wait until a later date for night pictures.

+1, saturation can get out of hand in an instant.

In for night pics night pics are always so hard for me, I can't get the exposure right

Stand behind those hot lights, and use your tripod and shoot your car the other way, will turn out perfectly...then just mess with the exposure until you get enough detail, but not too much so that the lights wash everything out. Night shots are hardest but also sometimes the most rewarding since you can accentuate or hide things a lot easier since your'e the one controlling the lighting variable.

Great shots Tyler. Love the first shot with the courthouse in the back.

You should consider picking up a Circular Polarizer filter for your lenses. It really helps improve contrast and makes colors pop straight out of the camera. For car photography, it helps do things like bounce around the reflections to cut glare out of windows. Best Buy sells them for under $20 if you are looking to try it out. I never leave home with out mine.

Here is a demonstration:

I haz a few filters but primarily use the UV filter because I mostly shoot during the day. Maybe I should switch up more often

NO NO NO

UV filters are a waste unless you pay for a good piece of glass. I used to have them on all of my lenses but I have since taken them off and I get much better results with my photos. It's just my but I feel strongly against the use of the UV filters. It's another element of glass and unless it's a high quality filter, you will tend to get haziness and softness in your photos. You're better off buying lens hoods to cut back glare and to protect your glass. Try it out, if you like the results, you're welcome.

Now I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing

I guess I'll go filterless for a while and see what happens.

No way, your shots are too awesome to say that

I took 203 pictures and only kept these. I don't even want to post these, I think they suck

Tyler you will be proud, these went straight from my camera to Flickr. No editing whatsoever except for the last one.

The edited one...

Excellent! That editing looks great

I have a hard time managing glare. I just get annoyed and say the hell with it.

I wanted to edit these SO badly but I didn't want to hear Stickers bitch about it

It doesn't matter how professional of a photographer you are... everyone edits their photos. As long as your editing doesn't go 'over-the-top', the hell with it

I'm sure Stickers edits his photos, too

Tyler-excellent new shot! Really well staged shot with great lighting.

Hey, I finally got a confirmation on my Canon T4i. I had to cancel my Direct Buy purchase because it wasn't going to ship until August 6th. So I found an online outfit who had the body only available for just about the same price as Direct Buy. You're going to have to give me LOTS of pointers.

Good, at least you are working on your mad skillz now! Those shots look pretty damn good dude! I see what you're saying about more light in the front rather than rear. What white balance setting were you using?

Multiquote doesn't seem to be working for me, (dumb Mac prolly) but I very rarely edit my photos. The last set I edited was from a car meet and I just messed with the brightness/contrast because it was on a gravel lot on a really sunny day. I recently did an HDR shot, but other than that I do not edit pictures at all, other than to watermark. The way I see it is, why edit a photo to seem like you are a better photographer, rather than learn from your mistakes and allow those mistakes to help you become a better photographer. Sure, editing looks great, but call me a photography purist, I like it to be pure camera. That being said, I have come a long way since I started shooting digital, because I don't edit, that way I know what to work on, and how to make my photos better.

Phew!

I totally agree with you about pure photography and learning to improve your shots.

I just feel like sometimes editing is not a bad thing. Within reason, a simple crop or taking out imperfections in the photo is not something I take pity on, and I try my best not to have to do any corrections with post-processing, especially when working with nature or scenery.

I come from a family of photographers and they always about how PS kills photography so I understand you completely Stickers

Glad to hear it! I started shooting with film so many years ago, so learning to use the camera and not the mouse is why I am this way.

BTW Friday the 13th
