I spent the morning working on the cars. First, oil & filter change on my 2005 Mazda, then oil & filter change, Transmission drain & fill, transmission filter change, 3rd & 4th gear pressure switch, and transmission range selector change on the TL.
Free LKQ cover... this is our beater we let family borrow. Came back with missing parts FTL 11 months since its last oil change on the 3. Its driving much better now. First time tackling the tranny filter on the TL PITA, but finally free. Ordered all this monhts ago and trying to figure what is what... Old vs new filter Cleaned up and new gaskets on. Also installed the new spring in the tranny fikter housing. All back together... i made sure new washers were installed on both sides of the transmission line. New switches. Installed. I also did the transmission reset procedure afterwards. Transmission range selector. I went ahead and changed this as I noticed a 0.5-2 second delay in gear switching (i.e., parking and switich between D and R). Installed. I made sure the transmission was in neutral prior to removing the old one. Once installed, I verified gears change smoothly from P, R, N, D, and L. Everything works fine!
I need to take it on a test drive and ensure all is well. Overall, glad to finally do this. There was a ton of oil on the transmission, so I sprayed it off with brak cleaner and wiped it down. Could have been residual from the valve cover leak, but will see. I know the oil pump is leaking for sure.
oil pump and the gasket near the rear main always do at higher mileage and age.
I like to consider it just lube on the outside of the engine to ensure it remains fresh.
Nice work, man...don't you just love that rewarding feeling?

I hear ya... 241K+ miles, so leaks are expected... Drove the TL this morning to the airport and it felt great! Just last week I was contemplating letting it go, but after completing some work on it, I'm more excited to finish restoring it. Most likely getting a new Denso AC compressor next month. Trying to figure out if I can just do the compressor or should I get the condenser as well.
Had the kids close out the weekend washing the cars. First time stepping back and letting them have at it (instead of me telling them just let me do it lol) Also, still in the process of building a pool... dirt/sand everywhere
Do you have a garage door on the front and back?
Is that the front of the house? A pool in the front yard I've seldom seen but
think it's cool.
Great news on the TL and I feel you...the better I keep making mine drive the more I
am sure I want to hang onto it. There's no other sedan on the road that has the same
presence nearly 20 years later. It's good at everything it does.

I have a wrap around driveway, so my garage door faces the back of my house. From the front, I have windows, no door.
Here's a shot for reference Here a front shot for reference... driveway on right side wraps to the back of the house.
wow this is the 1st time I saw a South Florida house has no sun room. I like the design tho, looks like old French or Spain architecture. J want that long ass driveway so he can buy more car lmao.
What a strange but cool design.
I would LOVE that setup.
It is unique... Semi custom home that I was fortunate to find at the right price at the right time. I wasn't a fan at first, but I'm the only house in the neighborhood with this setup.

Yea, sun rooms are popular, but I'm putting up a screen enclosure around the pool. Between bugs and critters, I can't imagine an open pool. Had to convince the Mrs growing up with a pool and finding all kinds of unwanted guests would not be a good look.

Google Florida law:
'RESIDENTIAL SWIMMING POOL SAFETY ACT; 515.29 Residential swimming pool barrier requirements.—'

Not a bad idea but I also seen the pool area actually is a sun room. Too bad I can't do none of that here in TX, HOA is a you know......

I'm aware of the safety barrier. When I say open, I meant no screen enclosure. Fully aware of the safety requirements needing to be met. I also got slapped with upcharge for safety buoys.

Yes... fully aware of the HOA and how they can be a PITA. I'm cool with the board thankfully!
So over the weekend, car died. I tried to jump start it and didn't work, so I got my wife to tow me home (thankfully I wasn't far from the house). I still had all accessories turning on and battery voltage read 12v, so I suspected it was the starter. Pulled it out and tested fine. AutoZone dude asked about the battery, so we tested it and confirmed it was drained, but still good. Went home, recharged the battery, and reinstalled the starter.
Once battery was charged, reinstalled and car fired right up! Used my tester and confirmed 14v reading and verified alternator was good. Jumped on AZ and read how HFL fails can drain the battery. I disconnected that yesterday, but also identified the factory amp was extremely hot to touch. I found a video how the failed amp can draw current, so I disconnected it.
The amp is not working, volume to the max (40) and radio is still low. I'm going to attempt to replace the caps in the amp from a DIY I found on here over the next month or two. Right now, just trying to verify I found what's killing the battery.
Hfl/hands free link (unit located near headliner center front lights) is probably the problem with battery drain. Common problem. I had a car stereo place in Orland replace my stereo amp capacitors. Best of luck on if you try it on yourself. Worth a try. Back up is the Orlando place. Has online presence for stereo repair. WHAT A DEAL YOU GOT.....DANG!

Appreciate it. Yes, I figured out my battery drain issue and it was actually the Amp. I have since replaced the amp and I also disconnected the HFL unit when I bought the car.
In other news, I might be gifting the TL to my father in law for Christmas. Sad to see it go, but he needs a vehicle and it will still be in the family. I've been thinking about it for a while and I finally came to terms this weekend. I'll keep this thread updated as I'll probably still being doing maintenance on it.
Been enjoying it though with the cooler weather
Hopefully, I will be able to get the RSX running next year. Trying to complete this pool project that has stalled.
I drove my buddy's newly acquired rsx-s home for him last month...
I forgot how fun the k motor is in the light car. I don't blame you one bit.
Yes, it's definitely a blast and look forward to getting my k24 opened up next year to see if it can be repaired. Also plan to rebuild the JRSC and ditch the AEM water methanol injection kit. Need to start looking for a new aftercooler setup.
As for the TL, looks like I'll be holding onto it after all. Just so happens, my father in law got a donated car from his son and it was confirmed by the wife today. We still plan on gifting a vehicle, but to her sister instead, our old Mazda3.
BTW I recognize you nats007 from the Central Florida ClubRSX forums, nice to see you with the TL and congrats on the pickup. Nice to see you still got the RSX as well

Yessir! CRSX has fizzled, but I still browse every once in a while. Really need to get the RSX running again, but other priorities has delayed it. FY22
So, I purchased a Bluetooth FM transmitter to connect my phone to the TL and was not pleased. Reverted back to the old school tap deck adapter and was thoroughly impressed how much better it sounded.
Think it was $8 on Amazon Tested today and sounds good!
Happy New Year! 2022 will be great and wishing you all blessings and more life!
Learned something cool... Didn't realize this year had the Maintenance minder lol. It popped this week saying A15 service coming soon. I'll look into it, but did an oil change not too long ago.
I'm currently looking for new positive and negative cables to hopefully overcome the intermittent non start. Additionally, I going to start the A/C troubleshooting before it gets into the summer here in Central Florida. I'll attempt one of the recharge cans first as I feel it may be low on freon.

Yep 04 got it! I got mine from acuraoemparts but their website is wonky, look at oemacuraparts.com instead.
Get yourself a set of gauges and a vacuum and see if it's holding vac or there's a leak. Highly recommend the denso a/c compressor if you do need a new one, use honda PAG oil. My shrader valves were leaking so I replaced them too.

I had a can put in when I first got the TL and it's been pretty cold since then...
the can was put in using gauges though...adding too much can be as bad as too little.
Next time around we're adding dye to find if there's a leak.

So, the compressor is definitely shot. Looking into a Denso.

I tried the AC pro with gauge and it was a no go. I've done all the various cheap troubleshooting now, confirmed freon is in the line, swapped relays, verified power to it and still nothing.
I think there may be a small leak in our MDX A/C though. I checked and it was in the green, but I added a little more freon in it.
Denso from rock auto is fine! Forgot to mention look into the GROM adapter, usaspec or Isimple if you can find one! I have isimple for my TL and MDX and love it! Plus the replacement HFL system with isimple is pretty decent. USA-spec has added features of working with the radio hang up and pick up buttons.
