Wrapping a j-pipe??

Hey guys. I just ordered one of the new v3 rv-6 j-pipes and I'm wondering if it would be beneficial to wrap the j pipe with some insulating wrap that's uses for the exhaust? I figured I would wrap up my j pipe before I install it as well as wrap up my precat deletes when I could afford them. I reasoned that this would first increase heat within the exhaust system giving me better flow and once I wrap the PCDs it would effectively reduce my under the hood temps. This coupled with the new and improved ultimate cooling mod (once I figure out how to do it and more info comes out about it's effectiveness) should then give me a super uber system. Thread contributions are greatly welcomed.

I'm sure if it was beneficial, people would have done it before. I have not seen a j-pipe get wrapped, so I doubt it will show any positive results.

I'm no expert on exhaust systems, so I'm sure other people will chime in and give better detailed reasons.

I haven't seen them get wrapped, however I have seen the interriors coated in ceramic.

People have wrapped pre-cats delets and J-Pipe before, but i would watch out for corrosion depedning on where u live(weather). I also am pretty sure RV-6 will void warranty on them if there wrapped.

Its talked about in this thread lol forgot the page number Good Luck!

Hmmm why would wrapping void the warranty? I wouldn't be to worried about stainless steel coroding. Wouldn't it make sense that if you were to wrap almost the entire exhaust system that you would increase exhaust temp and thus flow as well as reducing under hood temps once the PCDs are wrapped?

Well wat i read from in that thread, he would most likley avoid warranty and im not disagreeing with you that it will help reduce under hood temps. just saying it might void warranty.

Most of the major manufactures don't warranty wrapped headers. Something about uneven thermal expansion and dissipation causing cracking. I recommend ceramic coating it can be applied much more evenly.

The wrap can hold water or salt from the road causing the jpipe to rust out and fail, a coating whether it be a jet coating or other type is a better idea.

Cool but does everyone agree that there will be benefits if I do decide to wrap my j pipe?

doubtful. the j-pipe sees plenty of airflow seeing as it is under the car. the pre cats on the other hand....might help lower the already ridiculous under hood temps, but wraps tend to be more of a pain then a help in my experience.

The only thing will benefit by wrapping is the exhaust is preventing rust, salt, and other things away from the J-pipe.

I'm not sure if the J-pipe will ever "fail" by salt/sand and things like that especially if its manufactured correctly (stainless steel).

the jpipe aint even worth coating... I'd say find your nearest home depot and spray it w/ some hi temp black... call it a day... spray it couple times a year to keep it oxidation free

I see no advantage to wrapping the J pipe. You wrap pipes when there are issues of heat getting too high in areas you don't want it, such as by the radiator, intake, wiring, etc. Thats why you see this a lot in heavily boosted FWD cars where the turbo manifold is right beind the radiator and intercooler. You have a lot of heat at the point you don't want it and the wrap is beneficial.

The J-pipe is under the car. The only thing you'd get by wrapping it is a fuzzy feeling.

1-wrap your cat deletes. Gain= help keep engine bay temps lower.
2-dont wrap your j-pipe. Gain= save your money, and your time.

About heat wraps holding water and salt, and mud and all that crap and helping towards corrosion..not true.
If you decide to wrap your cat deletes. Get a spray can of silicon...(sold by same company that sells the heat wrap) and spray it over the wrap after its fully dry on the pipes (you're gonna wrap with a water wet wrap)... that will seal the wrap, further help its function, and keep the bugs and flies out

What Richie said about wrapping them voids the warranty with a lot of companies...and the reason he mentioned, its true. They can crack. But then again, anything could happen.

Me? I take such risks, and nothing's happened on my side yet. If it cracks, I"ll take it off and weld it shut

wrapping your exhaust keeps most of the heat inside the exhaust pipe, which leads to a higher exhaust gas pressure and the higher the pressure the faster it will flow through the pipe. I dont know if this will make a difference in power but it will make a difference in exhaust tone (mine did).
