Exclamation Would adding another Resonator help?

Hey all,

I'd like to add one more 22" resonator to my ATLP v2 jpipe, high flow cat. w/ resonator exhaust. This is due to some drone during light acceleration at 2-2.5k RPM. There is no rasp or any other drone at any time with this Exhaust.

Question -

1. Will a second resonator reduce the drone at 2-2.5k rpm, and will it reduce HP/TQ?

2. Would you guys recomend a Helmholtz resonator system to eliminate the 2-2.5k RPM drone?

a resonator is a straight through pipe designed to get rid of certain frequencies...

a Helmholtz resonator always involves a chamber with an open port...where would you put this chamber on the exhaust?

hint* all i did was google the difference between a muffler and a resonator...
then googled for helmholtz resonator...

I went through a tunnel on my way to work this morning and WOT'd. Man the notes were impressive! I can only imagine how it will sound with an added whine!

Thank you for the google Justin.

What kind of mufflers do you have? Going to a turbo style muffler on my first Accord killed the drone. Same on my G35, cut it way down but didn't totally eliminate it. Considering the Vibrant Ultra quiet resonator for it.

Thank you sir! I have ATLP mufflers, not sure what the specific company is.

Would I be able to add it along with my ATLP resonator?

Depends on the room you have underneath.

My current set up is XLR8 v2 J-pipe, Dynomax resonator and mid-muffler delete, precats and cat back are stock. Nice growl when you get on it, zero rasp, zero drone. If I get a catback, going to have it built at a shop that specializes in custom performance exhaust so it stays similarly quiet at cruising speeds. Seems most aftermarket cat backs have at least some drone in them so I'd prefer to stay away from that and not have the issues I'm having with my G35 and having to add a resonator to the y-pipe and replace the muffler like I had to do.

At cruising speeds its almost silent. Its only when I give it very little gas during acceleration from a stop that i can hear it, its not as bad as I'm painting it. I'm accustomed to not hearing any exhaust notes. It sings very well the ATLP does!

Side Note - I raced my against my lil' bros 2008 Acura TL-S today and he beat me; By 3 cars @ 100mph!

I have no clue!
with these cars being as cheap as they are now, i bet you can find everything at the junk yard for pennies.

Do we have a swap guide on here? I'm curious to know the amount of work involved. I'm guessing I would have to change the ECU aswell as the gauge cluster?

Seems like a good amount of money/work, but this will make he car more controllable, fun to drive(though it already is), harness more of the engines power, and get better fuel economy.

How many 6MTs were made in 07-08? Our cars may be cheaper these days but 6MT 07-08 ' is still the holy grail.

Did you feel any power loss?

You do not lose power from a resonator. Even if you did it is negligible.
