What's a 3G TL top speed?

Is it electronically limited like many other cars out there?

I think I recall reading that the 6MT is drag limited @ 152mph and the 5AT is governed somewhere around ~130mph.

i don't think i'd be comfortable doing anything over 100 on the stock tires.

i'm surprised they allowed top speed of 152, though, as most cars have governors around 130, 140.

Honestly, 145Mph in the TL isn't scary at all on a long, wide, flat, straight stretch of highway with nobody else around. It felt very natural for the TL. What feels "unnatural" in the TL is low speed tight streets.

Found it:

C&D May 2004, Acura TL A-Spec 6MT - Top Speed: 152 mph (drag limited)
Same deal with the Acura TL 6MT in C&D's March 2004 - Top Speed: 152 mph (drag limited)

However, C&D's original test of the 6MT showed 152 mph as 'governor limited'

Please, speed responsibly. If I am ever allowed to drive my father car when he actually gets it I will push it to its limits. However, I will drive out to a rural area or a track. Instead of flying to florida maybe we can drive down there some time. Although I know the TL can handle it, I wont weave in and out of traffic. Its limited to 152, but I heard the auto only goes 150, but I could be wrong. The guy who we test drove with told us he "go one hundid feefty on highway!!!"

crazymjb - TL is actually a powerful car for a first time driver. I wouldn't recommend you "pushing its limits," as you are not an experienced driver.

I've done 130 in my eclipse, on a long strech of freeway (all roads in michigan are pretty much flat and straight) when I was 17 - and looking back, it was extremely idiotic, as if something had gone wrong, I wouldn't have been able to react to correct it.

I think flooring the TL every now and then would keep you plenty happy.

I don't think when people are going 150mph, they are weaving in a out of traffic. Whenever I push my car to a land/speed record, ( so I call it ) it is on a long straight stretch with no other traffic and in good conditions. There's nothing wrong with pushing your car every once in a while, and just cuz you do it, doesn't mean you are 26. lol :p

no, hopefully people aren't that stupid to be weaving in and out at 150 mph... they'd never make it to "weaving out."

the point is though, you're forgetting other f'ed up sh!t that could happen. like a fat ass raccoon popping outta nowhere (this happened to my bro), or hitting a very uneven bump, or "slow children" could be seesawing in the middle of the road.

invest in a helmet and hit the tracks.

i want to clear up something, before you deem me as an insenstive bastard.

by "slow children," i was referring to the road sign, not handicapped children.

i wonder if other states have this sign. it has SLOW in big bold capital letters (as in slow down), and right underneath it is "children" with a picture of kids on a seesaw. i'll snap a pic of it if anyone want to see it.

Lsr?

I don't remember ever reading in official Acura material that the TL is limited except as to RPMs.

I did read that one mention in Car & Driver which I believe was an error.

When mftrs limit the speed of their cars, it is usually matched to the rating of the tires. They would have a liability problem if they allowed the car to outdrive the tires they put on it.

Our tires are rated for a sustained 165 MPH.

I don't think a TL would see more than 155 unless it was downhill with a following wind. :-)

No, I know what you mean. It was just when he said "slow children" I thought it was funny in the fact that if we were doing a buck fifty down the road, I think about everything would be slow to get the hell outta the way! We have those signs, but what's much worse is when people come out yelling and screaming for ppl to slow down when they are doing like 40 in a 30. Them crazy peeps.

Talking

Done 140 on a GSXR750 right after the throgs neck bridge on i-95, fastest i've been in my TL was around 130 on the NY Thruway up by Poughkipsee very early AM like 5am. Its a lot scarier on 2 wheels than it is on four as many of you can imagine. But i felt compfortable in the TL's capabilities.

for those of you who have gone above 100, what was the top speed of the 5th gear, in MT, and what was the RPM at 140+?

when i was in Canadia last summer, going up to Bruce Peninsula, we found a road where there was a sign that read "NO SPEED LIMIT"

it was pretty funny, 'cause my friends and I just couldn't accept it. we sat there for a min and asked each other, "what does that mean, no speed limit? there's gotta be a speed limit... right?"

we quickly settled that we follow the law, the no speed limit sign, and i floored the car.

it was fun, except we were in my buddy's 525i... slooooooooooooo...oooo...oooooooow.

I've gone 145 in 5th gear, pretty close to redlining 5th gear at 140, but that high in the rev-range still feels like a lot of torque under the pedal. I have not yet met my speed limiter. 155 feels wrong though, like you shouldnt be going that fast. Car felt very stable, and capable of more. Probably w/o speed limiter could hit 165+. DANGEROUS

Hmmm....as much as I would love to "safely" experience 100+ or even 150+ how do you guys do it? IMO the risks are far to great than the desire to experience those speeds. Getting stopped for going that speed would more than likely result in the loss of the license, not to mention the safety issues that come along with it.

Don't get me wrong...I am not preaching...I just haven't had my desire of speed (which is VERY strong) outweigh all the possible consequences that go along with it.

Perhaps that's a good thing....

How and where do you guys find this "courage" to push the TL to the max?

Just knowing what the TL is capable of as a sedan sends chills up my spine!

Well a couple things about getting the top speed. We do it where we THINK there are no cops :p therefore we only go long enough to see how high we can get it, not maintain that speed! Second, if it is a long flat straight stretch, and no one is out, to me it isn't that dangerous, because it is only for a short time and not a maintained effort and if the car couldn't handle over 150, the manufactorer wouldn't allow it to see anything close to that speed. IMO

I think it is fun as hell to go that fast. I have a vid clip of a skyline doing 205 through a tunnel, and that is friggin TIGHT. I can settle for 150 though!

Well, simply communting to work each day in NJ - most people are doing 80mph already. So if you are passing someone or your mind wanders off listening to O&A or Channel 150 - I have found that the TL reaches 100 without even sweating. A couple times I have looked down and not even realized it - she rides real nice at that speed. I dunno what I would do at 120 or so though - probably stain the leather

Piano Man, I'm with you...I know my luck, and my luck is the rookie cop with the brand new laser just out of my line of sight that hits the trigger as I hit the top end....I haven't gone over 100 more than a couple of times in the car, but I love speed so I got a bike - best so far is 140 between blocks of traffic on a straight stretch of flat interstate, solo, in 4th gear ('03 ZZR1200). On a bike you get there real quick and can get back down under warp speed before most cars can get to 100.

A Honda Accord, of all things, was playing around on the Turnpike Saturday. I just had to blow past him. When I looked at the speedo, I was over 125 and it was like a drive in the park. Still had lots more in it but the gearing is long and you need a lot of room to go past 130.

The Navi map can move real fast at 1/8.

Yes, TSX is, which accedes one of Accord model, the lineal descendant. But TL, I'm a little hazy with it, seems an unique model in the phylon of Accord, it seems nonlineal.

Where do you see hate?

You mean you wouldn't be surprised to see someone in a 5 year old Accord 4 door sedan wanting to play high-speed games on the Turnpike?

Around here, that's a bit strange.
