UR Pulley installed on a 08 TL-S

Hey,

I was finally able to get the UR pulley I ordered a while back from Excelerate installed. The install went smoothly in the shop and it was done quickly. They torqued it down to 180 ft/lbs and as soon as that happened I went on the highway and ripped it from 1st and through all the gears and I can surely say THIS THING HAS MORE POWER! It runs extremely smooth and pulls much harder than before. I'd definately say this is a "must do" modification.

Up next is the ATLP catback, pre cat deletes, ATLP JPipe is on already and the straight 3rd cat!

I will keep you guys posted.

Sweet. I just ordered the pulley too. Which one did you go with, stock or underdrive?

How much did you pay for install?

I went with the stock since I am not pushing any crazy stereo system or causing any insane electrical drain. I had it done at a local shop for $100. I've been to busy myself to do it so I wanted it done so I just went there and got it done! You will enjoy it tons its a great mod!

Can you torque a bolt to 180 ftlbs in your garage?? DAMN!

OP, your reasoning for going with the stock sized crank pulley doesn't make sense to me. Usually people with no system (like yourself) go with the lighter, underdrive. Am I wrong?

did you see the thread where I listed the part # for the tool which is a must

the tool costs about $25, once you have the tool all you need is muscle

Which shop? The prospect of installing this thing is very daunting.

yeah, mine is still sitting it the box from excelerate. The shop that I asked over here on the east coast of FL wants $120, to which I said F YOU, but to install it myself I would have to go home to the other coast. Is it possible to actually muscle (w/o impact gun or torque wrench) that bolt enough to get it to 180 ft lbs??

some local guys should follow that logic because if I can't do it I can get someone who can and although the work isn't free I beat anyone else price on the diy unfriendly mods you know

great mod - glad you liked it!

I put the UR pulley on my 7th gen accord, I noticed it the most while driving on the highway - car seems to pick up and get up to speed with ease

I seem to notice it also in the low end range. It seems to pick up speed much faster and with more much ease.

Out of the performance mods I have done the pulley is without a doubt my favorite mod. I think its the best bang for the buck period for the TL for performance gains. I like how the engine revs up faster with it on. On a side note I installed it myself and it was really easy, a no-brainer pretty much so if you are semi capable dont be afraid to take on the task yourself.

I got mine installed for $60.

I didn't feel comfortable using the braker bar method ... so I just bit the bullet and got it installed professionally.

Man, my father and I together have accomplished any task on a vehicle that we ever set out to do but we recently tried the UR crank pulley and it scared us too much. Had the car up putting springs on and gave the pulley a try with the breaker bar method.

We were only able to fit a 2 ft bar under the car with no joy. When we used extensions to get the bar outside the wheel well, every tool leading back to the crank nut torque flexed so bad that we decided it wasn't going to happen that day. And I was using the Honda crank tool.

I like doing my own mods so I'll rent a bay and hit it with a full 5 ft pipe. If you can break the nut, it's a pretty easy job and I must say the self-adjusting belt tensioner is awesome (yeah, all my previous cars were from the early 90's).

I have the pulley sitting in the box at home, have not yet had time to put it on. I had to get my truck running again. Finished that this past weekend, so I hope to get the pulley done this week or weekend.

Blip Method...

"This is probably a bad idea for the 2007's which have the "one touch" start. I did it with my 2006 with 1 1/2 second blip..." From 3G Garage

Has anyone actually tried to use the blip method when installing a pulley on a 07+ TL or TL-S??? I really do not want to be the first to try it.:shakehead

Man, the 'blip' method just can't be good for the internals. If I can't get it off the next time I hit it, I'll be forced to try it but something about this method doesn't sit well with me.

I like how it seems to smooth out the throttle. In first gear, tapping the gas was like riding a bucking bronco. Now I can ride in 1st while in traffic without having to constantly use the clutch.

The install isn't that bad as long as you have the right tools. Was able to do mine in less than an hour.

The throttle is definitely more responsive and it seems to run smoother. And it's very important to have the right tools. The blip method is just really scary to me; maybe I'm paranoid about liability issues but I would never do that on a customer's car or my own. Just get the Honda tool and some long breaker bars and the job can be done properly.

BTW to those who asked where you can purchase it, we do have them in stock.

http://store.excelerateperformance.com

UR 020611402 is the underdrive crank pulley; you will need Gates belt # K060820 (which we also sell)

UR 020611412 is the stock size crank pulley which can be used on any TL but is recommended for those with large stereo systems or superchargers so there is no underdrive.

werd, Excelerate. 'Blip' is just scary.

I've also read that it erases the "wall" the base TL hit when shifting from 3rd to 4th (AT).

Is anyone having a whine coming from the pulley when they step on the throttle?

What kind of whine? A squeel? If it's a squeel did you reuse your stock belt? Did you check the belt tensions? Try a Gates belt if you're having issues with the OE.

I have the underdrive. It sounds like a mini-supercharger whine.
