Turbo set up for TL-S....Yay of Nay?

I just spoke to a technician at GTPRO performance shop in Walnut, California. He told me that he can install protype turbo for my TL-S for 8 grand; and promised me of 75~100whp gainage with low psi set up. I've seen no one in the forum has turbo kit on 3gr TL, so I wanna ask you guys what you think about getting custom turbo. Yay or nay on this one?

8 G's sounds pretty pricey for 75-100 horse.

You can do the same for about half the price with a Comptech supercharger.

If you're going for the custom one off aspect then by all means, but if you're just looking for the $ to horsepower ratio, there are better options out there.

You should search the turbo threads.

From what I've read, no one has been able to pull it off; just lots of "back of the napkin" ideas on how it might be executed. Problems with space, tuning, etc.

Some here believe every Turbo proposition for the 3G is nothing but some frustrated engineer's pipe dream that'll never come to pass.

I thought the Comptech SC gave 50-60 HP?

GTPRO says they can either go with garrett medium frame twin turbos or large frame single turbo set up; they're gonna determine once I bring the car in. I don't have 8grand on my hand.....but let's say in 3 months?

Yea, you may want to read the other TURBO threads where this has been beaten to death. When you take your car in there make CERTAIN to ask them how many TL's they've done previously and how they got around the Engine management issues others ran into (since they can NOT use the current Honda stuff)? The smaller twin turbos would work better (if physically possible in this car). There a lot of exhaust re-routing required. The $8K will probably just "get you started" but if you have the cash and they've got the balls, go for it and let us all know on here how it turns out as there would probably be others waiting in line to be the next guy to get it done.

ndabunka, you are getting soft with these guys?

I was just looking through some of the old posts for some other things and was noticing how long it was since the last turbo person had updated their thread.

The fact that Honda experts like Hondata took this long to get the SC tuned, it will probably take someone a long time to get a turbo setup tuned.

One thing for sure, the price keeps going up.

But I guess if you have deep enough pockets, anything is possible. I'd certainly have a different ride if that were the case!

Yea, it's kinda wearing on me. I've even gotten so tired of it here that I've pretty much abandoned this site and started posting once again on mbworld.org because I am trying to figure out it's going to take to get my next "toy". I have pretty much decided to keep the TL even after I get the 2-seater (unless god forbid I decided to get into a S55 or S600). If I do turbo ANYTHING, I am now looking to do it the "easy way" (buy a used production TT, probably a 2004)

ndabunka, get the s600 def. i work at mercedez, driven both. they both are insane cars, but after WOT on both of them, i couldn't help but love the V12 combo with turbo. it sounds like a turboed v8 and v10 combined, i swear its like a song in my head!

if the TL is not your daily drive and you have extra cash on hand, go for it. if not, ... trust me.. you will end up spending more than 8g. so many thing can happen when you put turbo on NA car. First you will think... um... i will just use low boost setting on my car. But after you got the taste of the turbo, you can't stoping thinking and spending more to rebuild your engine that can take higher boost.

Pizza I know of that shop. I got another shop near gt in walnut who does crazy work. Anything you like for a 'fair' price. One stop shop. They do basic work, to motor builts, engine swaps, turbo, superchargers etc. They put in my supercharger. C&C auto call at 562-266-3800 ask for Alan or Chieu both brothers. Let them know Michael with the 06 red tl with the supercharger sent you. They know me and do great work.
cool

I hear ya. I've had my TL for a little over a year but only been here for a short time.

I really like this car for what it is.....'nuf said. I don't want to hijack this thread.

to be honest i dont remember. cheaper then any other place I asked. Plus I have been going to this shop the last 3 yrs about. I would not let anyone else work on my car besides c&c. Once they get to know you they treat you like family. I think I might be going to c&c around the 24th of this month maybe. Let me know if you want to meet at c&c...

i'd wait til i see couple of other TLS running Turbos and they are in good shape and than ill go ahead and do it. I will certainly wont become the experiment!
in my opinion, just go with a supercharger and some other bolton goodies. If you were really into turbocharger, you shouldve bought a G35 lol.
Just run the supercharger with Boltons and Hondata. Than do some weight reduction Mods.
I would say its wayyy better than putting a turbo. and will keep ur engine healthier.
(just my opinion)

Have you looked into the comptech supercharger? From what I understand, the 3.5L type S is the same engine with a diffrent stroke so the supercharge should, in theory, bolt right on.

i agree, plus a supercharger will be much easier on a high compression engine with its linear boost levels. 8k on a unproven turbo kit is rediculous and by the time you get it running the way it should, you'll be in way deeper than that, trust me. you cant forget about the BS fees that come with a project like this.

it will for sure. if i can fit the kit on my 7th gen accord, then it will def fit a TL-S.

that is the biggest hurdle to overcome. emanage seems to be the only solution and i think you can rule out hondata r&ding anything for the TL-S. try giving boomslang a call about making a harness. i think all they would need are a few wiring diagrams.

You'd be better off trading the car in on a BMW 335i once you consider all things, including resale value.
