Transmission swap?

Would it be a reasonable idea to swap my 5 speed automatic 05 tl transmission to a 6 speed of the same year. How much money are we talking and has anyone ever heard it done before?

It can and has been done. If you are mechanically inclined and can do it yourself then go for it. If not, and you have to pay for labor it probably isn't worth doing. I think I saw a swap go for around $2500 or so - that's not terrible, but you could probably piece one together with an accord trans for less. The accord trans doesn't have an LSD tho.

Find a 6MT TL 04 to 06 or a 6MT TL-S 07+ and call it a day. My Integra has a 5 spd swap that I did, would I do it on a TL? No....I would just hold out and try to find a nice MT TL. I bought a 5 spd Integra that ran fantastic but the body was to far gone thanks to the wisconsin winters and road salt. Sold some of the parts, kept what I needed and scrapped the rest. Great learning experience but it had been done a million times before unlike the TL.

If you had a ton of room (big shop) and a complete MT TL-S of the same year then maybe......

It's a lot of work but I think all the parts came out to around $5.5k.

Nobody has done this on an 07/08 model yet. But there's plenty of threads about it on 04-06.

5.5K if using new parts maybe, or a twin disk clutch that runs 2K by itself like libert did.

I guess the 'lot of work' is a relative term. Aside from installing the pedal and shifter, its like doing an r&r on a transmission.

If my auto ever craps out on me, I'll be doing the swap. Got 180k on my 05 now.
