This won't happen until the water is up to the intake piping, which is at the same height regardless of filter.
This is Inaccurate and I endorse this message^.

^^^ i would highly suggest you to keep track and a spreadsheet....loosing 250-300 pounds is not tough at all....now the fun begins as most mods are not 40lbs of weight loss they are more like 10lbs or less....

Below is the *actual* PM that I sent to the forum moderator on 07-22-2009. I had been trading PM's with the moderator because the moderators were debating closing my diet thread at that time. I had to plea with them (make a case) why my diet thread should be allowed to remain unlocked. This was before it was added to the official 3G Garage.

Title : Re: Weight Loss thread
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AJ,

In addition to having a warning on the first post, would it be wise to place the same warning on the current page (most current date) so that veteran readers will see it when reading the latest post ?

Thank you for being willing to spend your time to clean-up the thread. I do appreciate it !!!

Our 3G cars are getting older. I think that our 3G readers will be more inclined to pursue a TL Diet as their 3G ages. The TL Diet is risky, value wise, to perform on a car with a decent Blue Book value. However as the 3G ages and the Blue Book value drops to just a several thousand dollars, there will be considerable less risk involved in pursuing this form of performance mod in the future. The TL Diet is truly an AMAZING mod... just risky if the car has much value before-hand.

I see the TL Diet becoming more valuable to our readers as time goes forward and the car ages. I would be honored if the thread would someday become a Sticky thread. And having the current thread cleaned-up of many rude comments would help us to have a thread that might someday be worthy of a Sticky or added to the "3G TL Garage" section.

Thank you again aj !!!

I think it's great what you have done. Truly. I mean the time to do it has to be insane. Yet alone the time to put together such organized posts, answering tons of PMs, etc. That has to be a TON of work.

But I do have one caveat. You are like a rockstar here. An idol to some I'm sure. People look up to you and follow your lead. Blindly even. But what you just said there, in 2009, still doesn't work for me now, in 2012. Our cars aren't worth a few thousand blue book. I mean in 2009 '08s were one year old! Now they are four. Some still INSIDE possible Acura warranties even right?

Stripping off unnecessary weight from cars has been done for ages. I did it to my Prelude 12 years ago. People do it all the time to all kinds of vehicles.

I guess what I'm trying to say is there is a time and a place that truly demands taking such...drastic measures. Villa, for instance, I fully endorse his diet mods because his car is a track car. That's it's purpose. But I'm hesistant to endorse the diet for most people. 18 year olds coming on here that just bought types's, seeing this rock star and doing the same, and then devaluing their car. I'm sure that line of thinking is why that PM was made in the first place. And I'm sure a lot of the diet is able to be put right back on. And I'm pretty sure you have done a fantastic job putting disclaimers on your posts, etc.

I don't know really know what my point is. Lol

Maybe "Think, evaluate, and proceed with caution." to most TL owners.

Edit: And I say that with the utmost respect.

Edit 2: I guess another thing is...if you want that kind of performance or if you want to do that kind of "modding"...why buy a four door luxury/sport sedan? Why buy a car with nice deadening properties, nice electronics, just to rip them out? Why not throw a J in a EG? Or buy a cheap 6G Accord?

^ I totally agree about the devaluing. I have mentioned on several occasions where appropriate, like in the introduction of the diet thread, that there is an associated cost with the diet. The cost to this "free" mod is devaluing the car... to the point that it can not be sold. I have always warned people of this when they had voiced inclinations of doing a diet. My first question was always "do you plan to keep this car until it dies and not intend to sell it?".

BTW - According to Edmunds, a 2004 TL is worth $6,725 trade-in value.

I know man. I didn't know how to convey what I wanted to say without it coming off 'assholish'. That's wasn't my intention at all. Lol

As for the price I meant 3Gs in general. But...

My car is practically mint and has 80k.

Edit: Still less then half of what I paid for it. >:|

well, anytime you mod a car, you do have to think about the pros and cons.
While the full diet isnt for everyone, removing what you can still helps A LOT!

Sorry Rooster for the thread jack!

No doubt. If I didn't have passengers on the way up to the track tomorrow I would pull my rear seats and everything in the trunk for sure.

And I didn't mean to derail here...just posting to Inacc's PM post.

Hey.. wait a minute.. you can't remove anything that I haven't remove yet.

What are the plans to hold the glass in place? Just curious.

You might have it backwards. The wife *will* notice and *hate* the front door panel delete. Whereas, she will probably be less upset about the headliner delete.

There is a big increase in road noise with the panels removed. A lot more road noise... to the point where she will probably be scared. I say this because I was a bit scared by the new found rawness from the loud road noise.

I recommend to *not* rotate tires. I never rotate my tires. It is more expense because you can't "spread out" the wear pattern. The reason that I don't rotate is because I feel that the front tires develop weak sidewalls from the lateral beating that they take from steering inputs. If you put those on the back, you will have a loosey goosey rear end due to the wobbly sidewalls. It just depends how sensitive a person is to small details. But, the diet is all about enjoyjng the nimbleness. The wobbly sidewalls on the rear tires will detract from this enjoyment. Carried to an extreme, this is why I love shaved tires. Shaved tires + stiff coilovers + radical diet = dude.. words can not even begin to describe it.

Yes sir. This was always and is the driving force behind my diet project. you phrased it very well.

If you carefully keep track of your weight losses, it is fairly accurate to "dyno" the results from the weight lose. I do this in all of my diet updates. I show how much equivalent HP that I have gained with that update.

2006 6MT = 3483

I know 2004 ... but I have the 2006 specs at my finger tips.

3483 Lbs - 345 Lbs = 3138 Lbs

3483 Lbs / 3138 Lbs = 1.10994 Factor

Assuming 250 WHP, then

250 WHP x 1.10994 Factor = 277.5 WHP

277.5 WHP - 250 WHP = 27.5 WHP Increase

But, please remember that this is misleading because you gained everywhere in the powerband, not just peak hp like most engine mods. A fair comparision might be something like a 29 whp increase.

Rule of thumb is 100 lbs is 0.1 second quicker in 1/4 mile. And, 10 HP is 0.1 second quicker.

So by weight, you are approx 0.3 sec quicker in 1/4 mile.

Or by equivalent hp increase, you are 0.3 sec quicker.

So, it jives either way.
