questions for comptech S/C owners

A couple questions before I plunk down some serious $$$ for this thing:

1) Does the S/C sound louder with aftermarket intakes/exhausts? All the videos I've seen online are of cars with intake/exhaust mods, so I'm hoping it's slightly quieter on a stock car.
2) Is the charger audible at low RPM's?
3) Is the surging issue a problem for ALL s/c owners?
4) Is it next to impossible getting to the battery terminals with the charger located on top of it, i.e. when jumping another car?
5) Where can I buy the smaller (MT-51R) battery? Doesn't seem to be available online anymore Any local bay area retailers would be esp helpful, since shipping will probably be expensive.

Any help/insight is highly appreciated ... these issues will basically make or break my decision to get one

1. Yes, but you're going to love the whine and will want to make it louder still, custom intake, exhaust, high boost pulley etc.

2. No, like it's not even there, especially below 2K rpm but once the V-TEC kicks in @ 4K rpm it screams bloody murder

3. Yes, @ anything less than 70% throttle the ECU starves the engine of fuel (AFR 14.7-closed loop), that's why you feel surging, simply go WOT to fix it, no fix from Hondata or Comptech so far

4. Yes, terminals are accessible for jumping, but for battery or spark plugs replacement blower removal is necces.

5. 51R type small battery for TSX, Integra, CRV, Element and Toy MR-2

Thanks for the info! Since this is my daily driver (and the fact that my GF hates noisy cars), I need to keep the car sounding fairly stock. So if it screams bloody murder only at high RPM's, then I'm all for it

But it seems like WOT will be necessary even at low speeds to avoid the surging issue. Is there really no one that can fix this, other than Hondata? Sounds like a pretty straightforward fix, unless it requires specialized knowledge of Honda/Acura ECU's.

Since you are in Cali a better option is going directly to Hondata for their ECU reflash through one of the tuner shops they deal with. You see although they haven't officially released the product yet, if you come to them they will flash your car, you just need a hook up. With a flash your surge problems will go away plus you'll get a higher redline and a lower V-TEC engagement! Just do a search in performance, you'll find lots of info pertaining to this. Good luck, consider yourself lucky, I know I wish I lived in Cali too haha.

Very true - unfortunately I'm still about 6 hrs away from them, so I'm hoping one of the Hondata dealers up here can flash it remotely.

the hondata reflash makes a world of difference. The surging was very noticible before...now it's pretty much gone in every type of throttle you throw at it. IMO; about 95% gone...but I'm starting to think I'm a perfectionist.

So is it true that Hondata needs your car onsite to reflash it? I'm hoping one of the Hondata dealers here can do this locally.

Either tranny works equally well. Of course the MT will give more power to the wheels but that's not S/C related.

yea. if you are going to murder the throttle, you should consider an aftermarket tranny cooler. we all know how these Acura TL's AT transmissions are lol....and on a hot Cali day, you might start melting stuff

1) the whine gets to me alot, I have all stock except the S/C but all I hear is the whine

yeah surging is with all superchargers but there's a guy online that bypassed it by putting the 2 wires back together so it should be on the forums ..

I have the battery in the trunk relocation because I have alot of power going to the subs and all the gadgets so it's convenient for me to put it in the trunk...
** If you want I have a Die Hard 51-R battery that I don't use anymore w/ warranty and it's the gold one so it's at premium! *** only costed me 140 bucks

I installed my supercharger with some friends of mine so yeah if you need help or anything i'll be glad to help..

So does a stock TL with a supercharger sound something like this?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nMTIxVJL8k

Looking at that thread, it seems like MOST of the surging went away, but not all. Does this mean that I should give 75% throttle or more from a dead stop every time to avoid this?

Couple more questions before I install this thing and end up regretting it

- Are oil or tranny fluid changes more difficult with the S/C installed? I always goto the dealer for service, and would hate for them to charge more (or refuse these services) because of it.

- What's the approximate sound increase over a stock TL at low and high speeds? From the responses/videos I've seen it's about 50% louder at 3k rpm and up, but the whine is otherwise non-existent below 2k rpm.

Sorry if it seems like I'm asking the same questions over and over, but I still want my car to be fairly stock sounding overall, especially during normal street/highway driving

just change over tranny fluid to something fully synthetic like Royal Purple or Redline. I use the purple stuff, it works great & is about 7 bucks a qt. (cheaper than dealership stuff which is like 9 bucks a qt). My ATF flush took 20 qts. I recommend you flush cuz u don't wanna mix regular fluid with full synthetic.

Tranny cooler is recommended for pedal mashers & preserving the life of ur tranny. I don't have one yet, but plan on getting one soon.

That's pretty much it...

Nope. If the dealer tries to charge you more, they're just trying to take you for a ride. They prob think you can shit money cuz you're boosted.

Actual speed of the car doesn't really affect the noise level. It will remain pretty damn close to stock at any speed as long as ur in low rpm. However, when you're in the boost range (3000rpm to redline) the blower will gradually pick up speed & so will the whine. IMO, it is not deafening or irritating. Most of us here love the sound. The cool thing is that YOU control the noise level by how you drive. I had a shitty $150 exhaust in my 1st gen TL, it sounded good, but got irritating at times, drowned out my stereo & I had no control of it. THIS MOD WILL NOT HAVE THAT EFFECT.
When I have passangers with me & I drive 'normal'....they don't notice a thing.
When I give it some boost, they go "....whoa."
If you really want to preserve the stock noise level of ur ride, just don't change the exhaust system...you'll be alright.

On the youtube.com type in the search bar: supercharged TL it'll show up a 3G TL...

yeah most of the surge goes away, I say it's worth it, i love how it whines and you could always beat a evo from a roll haha, that's what I know from experience haha.... but yeah it's great to have if you need some help with the installs let me know, cause I installed mine myself...
