Noob question - Intake

Okay, I'm a noob but just curious - by taking off the plastic cover on my air filter intake, will that boost my acceleration by allowing for more airflow? Just kinda curious on some options I have to do to my car that are cheap and easy..2008 TL 3.2 Auto

No, that wouldn't do anything. Just get a new CAI, they're pretty cheap and easy to install.

You'd theoretically eliminate some of the restriction of the intake by removing the air filter cover. But I think the increased air temps by pulling air from the engine bay would be more detrimental than the small amount of restriction from the intake tubing. It’d leave it as is or go with a cold air intake.

The TL’s air intake isn’t bad to start with. It pulls in relatively cool air and doesn’t contain too much restriction. It’s designed to minimize air turbulence noises while sucking in somewhat cool air. But it’s not as good of a design as a true cold air intake from a performance standpoint. The air is hotter once it gets to the throttle body and it does contain some restriction.

Restriction isn't the issue with our intake, it's only worth doing if you wanna change the sound and in some conditions have slightly cooler air intake with will prevent it from pulling timing and losing power, but not add a tangible amount of power. If you're looking for cheap mods pass on an intake. Also define cheap, if you wanna add power you're looking at $400+ on almost every power mod.

Maybe is your keyword. What's your budget? Do you want the engine to be louder? The car sounds much more aggressive but it adds essentially nothing. I got a nice intake for $75 on eBay, I personally wouldn't spend $200+ on one like most of them go for.

Didn't even think about Ebay. I'm assuming the AEM V2 is the way to go - seems as if that's what people are choosing.

just throw in a k&n filter in the stock. cia will not do anything noticable except add nice aggressive sound. maybe 3 to 4 hp? but like i said nothing noticable... like "350" said above. gonna be 400+ for any good power mods.... i had a short ram but took it off... i cut my stock intake just below where it enters into the fender and threw a k&N filter.. works great... eventually gonna get cia tho just for the sound

taking off the cover will do nothing.

get this trust me it will save you at least 100 dollars for the same amount of power and the sound is pretty much the same. The short ram takes literally 20 minutes to install and you wont have to worry about it when it comes to inspections.

^ you guys realize you loose power with SRI....just saying

OP get a CAI or do the OEM modification on the stock intake. Search and you will find the thread for the how to mod your stock intake.
