Let's talk about the Airaid UBI

I really need to do up a 4" intake and am thinking the Airaid UBI is the way to go. I like the plastic for heat reasons and the fact it looks low key. Just looking for input from anyone who's installed one. Rubenders and Vill0169 are the only ones on here who have it, as far as I know. Anyone else feel free to chime in as well! With all the recent 3.7 conversions, I'm thinking these kits will gain popularity in the near future.

The one thing I'll probably do though, is just buy the tubing for $99 and then order the clamps and couplers from Siliconeintakes.com and an AEM filter somewhere else. I can probably be done for $200 this way. The full kit is $260, which I think is pretty steep, considering I won't use all the clamps or any of the fasteners.

Here's a link for anyone who doesn't know what this is:

What are the 4g owners doing? Might be better to ask them.

I love mine, pretty easy to use and I've liked the results. I drilled/tapped a hole for the IAT sensor which works great. I did end up with a fair amount of extra material but might try to sell it locally if I get to it.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Well regardless, I'm interested in this as well. A spoon-feed-me-DIY would be nice.

Pictures from my install this past Saturday. Should give you a good idea. Once I got all the pieces trimmed to size I basically had to assemble it in the car. With the two braces installed on the C clamps I can move the car with it.

Honestly at that point you might as well buy some plastictubing/ducting from Lowes/HD and just an AEM filter rather than paying 99 dollars for some OEM looking plastic!

So it looks like you guys used different angles? Do you remember which ones you used, and where?

Looks like Vill used the 30 degree bend at the TB, then the 10" section and the 60 degree.

I just layed the AEM V3 on the AR pipe until it lined up and made the cuts. I'll take a picture of whats left over of the AR pipe sitting in the same configuration as above. There is more of the AR pipe left over than used. Just not sure if the angles will line up or not to make a second one. Would be nice if we could do two TL set ups out of one pipe. Would need the adapter, etc.

Anyone need a couple month old AEM V3?

If you buy the AR kit and e-mail pics of the installed CAI they will send you an AR Hat. Got mine in the mail yesterday. Just 3 days after sending in the pics. Impressive.

I'd get a better flowing velocity intake.

Looks good. So I'm assuming you didn't get the whole kit since you have different clamps and coupler?

Does it fit tightly enough to not have to worry about securing it anywhere?

Yeah, I just bought the tubing. $80 shipped on amazon. It is pretty secure, but I used a zip tie to secure it a bit more. Have not had any issues thus far

I do suggest to cut where the AEM lines up on the upper left at least another inch on the left side of the AR lin that is showing. The bottom right 60 is where I put the AR adapter.

I'm guessing this won't fit in a TL-S without relocating the battery?

I used the 30 degree bend at the TB then the 10" section and the 60 degree . Cut the beginning of the 4" section and and 6" out of the 24 " section.

I know this post is old but a picture or details would have help to compare.

Duno if anyone realized yet but you can actually get an intake for 2 cars out of the UBI tubing.

I can post a parts list of what I used if anyone is interested with prices. I bought the UBI tubing and then parts from silicone intakes and various other sites to piece mine together.

I used the 7" section, 8" section, 2" of the 4" section (as a coupler) and the 45 degree bend with a 9" filter and also used a hump hose to make one more slight bend at my throttle body.

Funny part is those three sections come attached together in the right order, so only really need to make 1 cut really and cut out a 2" section and use just 1x hump hose and 1x reducer to do this.

I tried fitting it a different way at first, which is why my 7" section with the IAT and bung for the inlet side of the PCV is cut off the rest of the tubing.

Might be a good idea though to cut out the 7" section, it'll make filter replacement easier since I can remove the 7" section and just spin the piece that is left on with the filter attached downward and take the filter out the bottom. The nose of the filter is right at the lower vents in my bumper, so it's pretty close.

I had also cut out the air diverters in my OEM bumper before, so that may be part of the reason it fit, I have the RJ on the car now and it fits fine.
I don't think the 9" filter will fit if you have lower fogs on the car though, but a good option if you don't have them.

That left me with all of the other sections that people were using to make a 4" UBI intake with a 4" filter.

I still have the following pieces:
30 degree
60 degree
2x 90 degree
10" Section
2" Section
24" Section

This is also in my progress thread, but thought I'd put it here to help anyone else out since most probably don't look through the progress threads.

Here's how mine looks.

It's slid down further from the ballast now as compared to where its at in this pic.

Used 2x of the silicone intakes pump brackets here, back to back. Can buy the little bracket separate from the T-Bolt clamp or together with one as well.

IAT can be unthreaded, it's just threaded into a nylon spacer.

I swapped the 4" coupler for a hump hose already, this is an old pic.

Nice

So I assuming that the larger filter provides more suction of air thus giving out a better response than a standard size filter?

Just thought I'd see if I could fit it lol.. it's sort of overkill. It has more than twice the surface area of the 4" cone filters though.

My IAT temps on the highway are 2 degrees F above the temp on the MID though, and idling it runs about 6 to 10 degrees above the temp on the MID.

Just built mine today. My manifold and Tb comes in Tuesday so it'll do for now lol. I ended up having to make another but at the bend. Worked out cause makes it easier for me to drop te filter when it's time to clean it.

For the breather tube I picked up this Spectre vacuum/sensor kit from auto parts for like 8 bucks. Came with drill bits to cut holes for adapters. Put the grommet under te short. End and it fit nice and tight into the hole I made with tools provided. Came with way more than I needed but it did the job.

May have to fav something up though to mount the IAT sensor but I won't do that till manifold comes in.

i don't understand your question. if you read the thread, you'll notice A LOT OF PPL have made this.
and the car runs, just like it did before the intake upgrade...
