Just installed the RV6 PCD.
I just installed my PCD this past weekend and there is some rasp going on once I hit 3200 rpm so I'm looking to see what I can do to get rid of the rasp.
My current exhaust setup is RV6 PCD, RV6 J-Pipe and XLR8 Resonated exhaust single tips. I've read around the forums that the MagnaFlow 12640 would get rid of the rasp but would I cut off the XLR8 resonator and replace it with that or would I cut off the piping towards the end near the mufflers to install the 12640?
The Magnaflow 12640 is 6" by 27" long so I'm just trying to figure out how I can fit the 6" x 27" muffler onto the XLR8 exhaust.

you cut out the xlr8 resonator and put the magnaflow in place of it. here is what i've done (final setup in signature):
- xlr8 resonated exhaust (v1 design which is louder than the current xlr8 resonated version)
- added hfpcs but it was too loud and too much dronve....removed xlr8 resonator and put a larger magnaflow 10436 resonator on...too quiet
- i removed that 10436 resonator and put a small magnaflow one on...the 10426 resonator and perfection!
i love my sound now. exhaust is an experiment!

I was thinking of going with the Magnaflow 10416 and installing it on the straight pipe right before the mufflers and keeping the stock XLR8 resonator. Its 14" long and I've got about 20" of space to work with on that pipe right before the mufflers.

So I just found a thread where someone was running one of the J-Pipes that keeps the stock 3rd cat and they had PCD with no rasp so maybe I'll just switch my J-Pipe to one where I can run my stock 3rd cat with it so I don't have to cut into my XLR8 exhaust to install the resonator. Hmmm decisions, decisions!

After thinking about it, I figured that I didn't want to use my stock 3rd cat because it's so restricted and a High Flow Cat from XLR8 is $299 https://store.excelerateperformance..../i-300866.aspx paired with the XLR8 Performance V1 J-Pipe from Heeltoe is $475 https://www.heeltoeauto.com/xlr8-per...a-tl-tl-s.html so that would be $774 before taxes and shipping cost so that was way too much.
I can't wait for the J Pipe to arrive so I don't have to deal with the rasp anymore! I've been shifting right before 3k RPM around town so I avoid the rasp unless I'm merging on the highway then I just rip it lol.

You should have kept the 3rd Cat to get rid of the rasp. If not, just go with Endless RPM J-Pipe V3 that already came with Highflow cat. I just picked up V2 and reused my stock Cat attached to Tenabe Medallion Catback. I am happy with the way it sounds.

mhtut83 - I already had the RV6 V3 J-Pipe that deleted the 3rd cat before getting PCD so I didn't have any rasp with the 2 stock cats coming right out of the engine. The rasp started after installing the PCD and that's because it was pretty much like running straight pipe with the 1 resonator that was part of the XLR8 exhaust system.
sockr1 - The Endless RPM V3 J-Pipe finally arrived today and I installed it right after work and the rasp is gone! It sounds so damn good and I can finally shift past 3k rpm without the annoying raspiness. I'll have to upload videos on YouTube to show my setup.

Yea. That's what I meant, to just go with Endless RPM V3 since it came with Highflow cat. But you've already purchased it even before I posted the comment. Glad you get rid of the rasp.

This is a silly question but didn’t want to start a new thread... do the RV6 PCDs require any heat shield? Is it just remove and install? Any torque specs when installing? Sorry just asking based off the title
also would a dynomax res with mid muffler delete reduce any exhaust crud on the bumper after installing the PCD? Just got the rv6 PCD and J-pipe combo. Then thinking of going with the stage 3 exhaust set up after.

No heat shield required and I wouldn’t use one. I’ve had the pcd’s since last year and have not had any black residue on my silver bumper. Enjoy the new hp-don’t forger to unhook your battery so the ecu can relearn. Make sure you have the radio and nav code handy after

Hey sorry for the late reply! I haven't uploaded any but let me find some videos that I did record on my phone and get it uploaded. I couldn't really tell the difference since I never dyno'd before or after which I've actually wanted to do just to see what the diferences are.

Glad I saw this thread, I was about to ask about precat deletes as it relates to power increase. I know about 6 people will say 'search is your friend' b/c the question has been asked heaven knows how many times, but, are there some real ponies to be gained? I'm on a quest for a little more acceleration and its looking like the tax man may be good to me this year. (for a change)

I plan to leave my resonator installed with TypeS mufflers, but remove the 3rd cat. What do you think? is it "safe"? I dont want much sound difference. I dont like the way a loud 6 cylinder engine sounds. Your last post sounds tolerable, but I dont really want it that loud.

well, I need to do something because when I get on it, I smell a bad cat. And I dont really know which one it is..
So if I get new cats, then my view is "why not go for the HFC's and delete the 3rd cat" but I dont really want it louder. I am only going for performance. Which may be minimal. Even RV6 told me that all you really get is a torque improvement.. Which is ok with me. Because these 6 bangers can use all the torque they can get. haha

modifying is all about compromises. you can't have your cake and eat it too.
if you change out exhaust components with less restrictions, you get more power and more sound.
and because it's all experimental; meaning you won't know how it will sound until you put the exhaust pieces on...you're just going to have to hope for the best with how loud it will be...if not happy, you can spend more monies to experiment with different pieces to get it to a sound you are happy with...
so, if you dont want it louder...then dont modify it.

For example, Compare the Type-S with the base TL. The TypeS is a bigger engine and the cats have fewer cells, and it has more output according to the stats.. Yet, both systems are equally as quiet.
In my opinion, for most OEM street cars, exhaust Restriction is not 1:1 on par with Performance.
Consider the new TLX TypeS with a Turbo, and 350 horsepower, I bet their exhaust is not anymore restrictive than mine, yet it has more output and horsepower than mine. And I bet it is a quiet exhaust system just like all honda's
Still, I do realize that if I remove the 3rd cat, it may be a tick louder. I am ok with that. But I dont really want it "loud". I guess I need to find some examples of OEM mufflers, 3rd cat delete with High Flow primaries. I mean the primary cats are the main thing! That's why I was not putting too much emphasis on the 3rd cat.

the new TLX also has active valves in the exhaust...meaning a flap is closed when you're not on it....when you're on it, the flap opens up.
