Isolate Inlet Plenum Heat

I was talking to one of my friends last night who owns a GTO. We got into discussing the difference between the composite inlet plenums on most newer cars and our aluminum one. He brought up a good point about the engine heat transfering to the plenum and heating up the air before it enters the engine. I know about the throttle body spacers with the heat isolation gaskets, but does anyone know about isolating some heat from the engine to the plenum. Also he brought up a good point of somehow moving the MAF away from the T/B to the intake. Is that posible?

I hope someone understands what i am talkig about. We were talking about releasing some more power out of the engine.

you havent been keeping up with things!
Outlaw Engineering makes an intake spacer gasket thats heat resistant for just this reason. It also comes with a heat spacer for the TB, that moves it away from the manifold- lengthening the throat - which is good
Now another company `P2R` makes a TB spacer that is wider and of a different material- and they make some type of manifold gaskets- Im not certain exactly on those

See azine vendor Excelerate threads for both products - check the Off Topic-then Sponsored Sales link at top of pages

LOL....re-read his post.

OP, the MAF in the intake itself would cause problems. This is precisely why the Nissans/Infinitis often lose power with the addition of a CAI; it causes false readings in the MAF. The TL, on the other hand, responds well to a CAI. No composite spacers available for the TL AFAIK, but insulating it the CAI, along with the P2R/gaskets can only help.

the IM gasket is worth its weight in poop IMHO, I have it and after 5-10 minutes of driving the IM is too hot to touch. I also have the TB gaskets and p2r spacer and I will say that they keep the TB substantially cooler though.

which brand gasket for the intake?
- outlaw users have found 10 -12 degree F cooler with a scanner tool for testing

I dunno a lot of people say the p2r throttlebody spacer doesn't work.. Because the throttlebody is very hot to the touch... Yet they fail to understand that the throttle body has a coolant line running through it, designed for those cars in extreme cold (to prevent freezing)... If you are super anal you could relocate the hose which routes collant through the throttle body temporarily then replace once its cold out...

As for anything else regarding cooling... Mashimoto makes a fan switch for all hond and acura which makes the fan come on sooner I think that would help

how is the radiator fan going to cool the inlet air??? The engine is designed to operate at a certain temp and extra fan ON is going to disrupt that programming

The big key to getting more power from the engine. It has to breathe!!! and cooler air is better,,,, if thats removing the resonartor box or cai or whatever to get outside air to the inlet- well thats what you do
If you understand how the venturi suction vacumm works and the temp rise that is causes, there are certain things that help- on the P2r or outlaw TB spacer- the TB retains its heat- the idea is the spacer should not transfer that heat to the manifold.
You are looking to make a heat barrier from the V6 pumping heat straight up and soaking the intake manifold as a whole, and then seperate the TB from the manifold to deal with the coolant lines heat. They are there for a reason- leave them be.

well i just relocated the coolant hose to bypass the T/B. But i am still looking into the gaskets and spacer. I lso relocated the IAT sensor to the new CAI body to get it off that hot plenum. So i hopefully released some power by doing that.

the IM gasket does nuffin, the TB gaskets & p2r spacer (with the coolant bypass) keep it much cooler. but the square footage of the inside of the IM is waaaay bigger than that of the TB.
