I did the intake resonator delete mod yesterday and so far i've realized that it gives my exhaust a deeper tone and if u hit the gas quick and let off u can hear the intake suck in the air. love this free mod! it was my first time taking off the front bumper and i managed to do this mod in under 2 hrs total. check out pics on my progress!

Hi, i was just wondering if we needed a CAI for this mod or not?? Because I've been reading all over the net that without the CAI the car performs worse on the dyno... i hope not!

I dont think you understand the intake resonator mod. all you are doing is taking out the intake resonator and all the piping before it. and then extend the pipe coming out of airbox with the velocity stack pipe. this allows to draw colder denser air away from the engine bay. the TL has a pretty legit intake setup from factory the way it draws in the air to suck in colder air but this makes it simple and gives you the CAI sound.

You'd have to remove the resonator to install a CAI anyway.
A few years later, I revisited this mod, btw...created a DIY for making your own poor man's CAI.

If pulling your entire bumper off, think of anything else you've been wanting to take care of...changing your headlight bulbs, changing out fog bulbs?

What Justin meant to say is they won't fit without hub adapters which are just 15mm+ wheels spacers that adapt one lug pattern for the other. It can and has been done. Unless the offset wouldn't allow for the extra space.

Not sure how different the Accord is from the TL, but I took off my left front tire and removed the fender liner to get at the resonator box. Left the tube from the air box that extended into the fender in place. Definitely sounds better, especially when it hits VTEC. Maybe a touch more pull, figure gains are similar to a short ram. And if I decide to get a CAI, resonator is already out of the way.

It really isn't that much different than the old hot rodder's trick of flipping the air cleaner lid to expose the air filter. Or the GAB (ghetto air box) mod on a Maxima where you drill eight 1" holes in the filter holder. Who cares if its maybe 5 hp, its FREE!

After doing this mod, it seems to essentially end up being a CAI when completed, do we have to worry about sucking up water?

It has to be fully submerged in water for that to happen. Don't drive in deep water and you'll be good

Just wondering since I live in the North East and we get plenty of rain. So you're saying that as long as I'm not splashing though puddles I should be good then right?

As long as you don't drive through water deeper than the intake point you'll be fine.

I've had zero issues with this, and I live in Florida. Just use some common sense, if the puddle depth is deep or unknown, don't go through it.

You've added your own filter to it rockstar, is it okay to just have the open tube?

I've had mine like that for the past couple months and there don't seem to be any issues. Just wondering long-term effects of just having an open tube without a filter on it

if you retained the factory filter box, there is no need to add a 2nd filter at the open tube.

HOWEVER, if you completely removed the stock intake and its filter box, yes, you need a filter at the end of the open tube.

I have the filter on the end in lieu of the oem location. Just pick one or the other!

Ah right, completely forgot that originally the intake resonator just had extended tube that was cut off. Thanks for the clarification guys

Correct, that's what it looks like, I left the oem filter location. I didn't do what you did by adding the filter in the front.

Anyone switch to a K&N panel filter after doing the resonator removal and notice a slight up-tick in intake noise at the VTEC switch-over? Definitely could hear a difference in my car.

Probably going to extend the tube that comes out of the airbox and into the fender since it barely extends into the hole that goes down into the fender. Notice some softness from long traffic lights on 100 degree days (which are still going on here in the Dallas area!).

Did you not use part of the piping from the other part of the resonator?

My resonator design is different, the tube went right into the top of the resonator which was up against the hole that goes into the fender. The Accord intake design isn't as good as the TL's.

I hate to say it but feeling any torque gains is just wishful thinking and placebo effect.
The stock resonator has a specific design, to pull colder air further away from the engine that is much denser and in the end BETTER.

Now your cars are pulling heat soaked air from directly next to the engine bay.

Not only that but the resonator is designed to create velocity while the air travels toward the filter. This creates a suction effect regardless if the engine is pulling or not.
Your engine, when it first sucks air when you initially gas it will yes be able to draw air in quicker due to the shorter intake length. But the over all warmer and less dense air will proved for less power gain.

Check out mightcarmods on youtube. Theyve done dyno runs to show the best possible intake is a stock set up with induction and an aftermarket high flow POD filter vs drop in because of the surface area difference.

You effectively turned your sri with induction into a restricted sri.

The air the intake is pulling is nowhere near heatsoaked that area is literally at the bottom of the bumper. Ive changed a foglight bulb after driving in the summer, that area stays nice and cold compared to the engine bay.

Yeah he must be talking about an SRI, as if we pulled out all the tubing and we only left the stock filter box. Once the bumper is on, the extended tube is right in front of the fog light grille which definitely gets tons of cold air while driving. Unless it's incredibly hot out of course.

I took my throttle body spacer off yesterday, bmore07tls was nice enough to give me his intake tube at Aaron's wedding Saturday. Got it reinstalled yesterday and MAN, it was impossible to fit with the spacer in there. I cleaned it all up and made it look oem again. I get my air from where the resonator was too, like the picture above but instead of the extra res tube, I have the aem dry flow that I cleaned recently.
