y wouldnt it work? it will its just that the purpose not having a cone filter is for the protection against water. but for sure a cone on the end of the stock part would work. just take the filter out of the box.
p.s. for those worried about water, you can take some pantyhose, scotch guard it then slip it on the end of a cone filter. that works great and it cheap.

i feel stupid...
how do I get the last bolt undone from the very end of the stock tubing that is directed upwards?
the two that are on the vertical wall are simple to get at, but I'm having a really hard time getting to the bolt that is more inside the engine bay area.
Any suggestions?

I tried this yesterday and i can feel the difference. The car wants to drop into V-TEC so bad and the wheel spin is crazy, I removed the intake resenator and added a tubbing from the bottom to the Ram intake that came with the intake, ( Weapon R intake) . Bumper removal was median difficulty lol, but it was fun. Next is probably the P2R because of the price, lol.

ah, okay...
I got it out finally. The last bolt that I was referring to was the one that to loosen, you would have to disassemble the skid plate under the motor. It isn't a complete bolt hole so with the right amount of force it comes out. That's the 'hard down and out pull' that I was thinking was in vain.
I looked like a maniac rocking my car back and forth to get this out, but the sound alone seems to be worth the effort. I'll do my best to monitor my gas mileage and report back.
Thanks for the help anyway

IF u guys just have that plastic tubing hanging down like that, and something gets sucked up like a plastic bag on the street, dirt debris, leaves up into ur engine ur screwed. This mod is stupid if thier is no filter at the end of it.

Are u aware that every1 is still using the stock filter!?...althought they r removing the resonator all the air still gets filtered...n even with a cold air this same problem could occur...i think this mod is just as beneficial as a cold air...all depends on what suits u...soon enuf im definitly gonna give the "icebox" a try...such a sick setup!!!

Well...if there are a lot of random debris around where you drive, then by all means...don't do it!...I mean stuff like a grocery bag, it would still have to make it past the bumper grill..and find it's way into that empty space behind the bumper. I would say it's more likely to have a wasp nest getting built in it and blocking airflow.
Just my thoughts...
most people are using the k & n drop in filter with this mod.

I'm guessing GTX doesn't grasp exactly what this mod is.
I don't think any of us expect to feel huge gains in HP or gas mileage from this, but the simple fact that the cost only amounts to some time and sweat equity is enough to give this a try.
Honestly, if you are a TL diet guru, you'd be thrilled at the prospect of removing 3-6 pounds of useless plastic tubing and parts from your front end. If you took the time to drop the boat-anchor, you certainly should look into this.
I'm really wanting to put a velocity stack onto a tube feeding into the stock airbox, but I'm really not sold on dryer ducting.
Does anyone know of another flexible and easily routable pipe that could work? I just don't want to strap washer/dryer parts onto my 35K car.

lol^ but yea I'm gonna try this when I get my switchbacks from vleds because I don't want to take the bumper off more than I have to. I'll let you guys know how it turns out

I did this last week. Throttle response feels a little better. I did not notice and more power up top. Like I said before I will be dynoing the stock intake, this setup and an AEM V2 I just ordered on the group buy. So we will see what happens. The dyno for all 3 setups should be done Friday the 8th.

who is their right mind would run any kind of intake without a filter somewhere along the plumbed lines????? The stock filter is in the engine bay, not inside the resonator, so removing it does not effect air filtration at all.

Its not quite 3" a little smaller. I took mine off last week I can measure the stock piece but I know its going to be smaller than 3". I'm going to say 2-3/4" would be a snug fit. 3" goes on but will fall right off if you dont tighten the hose clamp.

if you wouldnt mind measuring it! that would be awesome...im planning on doin the icebox soon n i just want steady air flow going from the velocity stack right through to the filter! so its either between the 3" inlet stack or 4"?!

is it ok that i did it without a K&N drop in filter like you guys are all talkin bout? my TL is just stock n i took out the resonator without doing anything else to it

Hey guys, I didn't quite get through all of the posts so maybe this has been answered but I was curious if the same result will come from taking the intake resonator off of a 2009 tsx? I just got the car a week ago so I'm new to the automobile for the most part but I'd love a little more low RPM rumble and of course the potential for better gas mileage and HP would be awesome as well. I was looking under the hood and noticed the intake may actually go down like U and loop back up to the hood/front grill (doesn't look like a ram air setup though) so would this still benefit me from taking it off in terms of an increase in power? Has anyone tinkered with an '09 intake yet? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Once you start adding other parts to this mod I think it nullifies the original purpose...which was that it was free (unless you add the K&N drop in, which I advise anyway).
2009 TSX can do this too. I felt even MORE of a difference when I removed my gf's 08 accord coupes 4 cylinder resonator. Much better throttle response. And a nice little growl. Don't expect miracles...but for a free mod, there's a difference whether perceived or actual.
