if you havent noticed OP, on the 3rd gen TL the heads are cast on to the block.
so, we dont have the need for headers.
catalytic converters are coming off the heads; and we replace these cats with straight pipes.
Most everyone does the Jpipe mod first.
ya know to test waters to see if they would like to further mod the exhaust.
I did jpipe; and then wanted more power.
so, I bought Pre-cat deletes; or PCDs.
these straight pipes replaced the cats.
However there are drawbacks to PCDs.
with PCDs:
you might not pass emissions; depending on how strict your emission testing is.
2nd, there is a smell and sound that come with PCDs
since you're replacing the cats with straight pipe; you get a raw machine gasoline smell.
almost like a weed wacker.
the straight pipe is thinner in material; and as the exhaust gas passes through; it will emit a raspy sound.
so, we dont have the need for headers.
