Cool Getting an X-Pipe made - my observations

So this week I took my RV6 True Dual exhaust into a fabrication shop to get an X-Pipe made. Just wanted to share with others what I feel is different with the sound (in case others are also thinking about doing the same)

The X-Pipe makes this exhaust a "real deal" dual exhaust.
First thing I noticed is that the tiny little bit of rasp I had is now gone. The exhaust note on the outside seems to be deeper and there is a little bit more drone on the inside.

Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure. I'll try to get a video up soon.
Acura TL Type S 6MT
RV6 HFPC
RV6 J-Pipe
RV6 True-Dual Exhaust

Needless to say I am pretty happy with this modification. It doesn't dramatically change the sound but it does change it for the better.

It's a shame Richie isn't going to be making these exhausts after his last batch.

I spoke to these guys who did my X-Pipe and they are actually working on another TL right now to make their own true dual system that integrates the J-Pipe and catback into one full exhaust. If it ever come to light I'll be sure to stop by and check it out

Looks good, I'm not sure how much better it would actually flow but X pipes are definitely where it's at, my Impala has always been true dual, it sounded incredibly better after I went to an X pipe and had more low end torque, way different application but some of the same things apply. I've seen different types of X pipes that look more like the pipes are side by side than an X and supposedly there's less turbulence that way.

That's what I was thinking too. Wouldn't it be better to run it straight than merging? I think there was a thread about that which I need to find and read.

not entirely sure which stainless they used. im going to assume its vibrant stuff.

i paid a low price because i was referred by a good friend. couldnt pass it up.

the welder use to work for ultimate racing.

i dont feel any power difference and doubt there is any.

I honestly just did this to get rid of the scraping that I get all the time from the flange. Plus it looks awesome. Might get them to polish my entire exhaust :P

sorry richie - i was intending to send the Jpipe back to you to modify it. but the downtime and shipping costs made me go local instead. i wish you offered your x pipe mod earlier.

If this were on a turbo manifold, I'd be more concerned about backpurging. On an X-pipe connecting to the exhaust? eh..I'm surprised they even tig welded it. I think they did a pretty nice job.

I've always found visuals to help me. It did when I was learning to weld:

Here's a weld that was not back purged. The outside could look beautiful, and the inside like this:

You can back purge carbon steel or aluminum but they are not as dependent as stainless is. Stainless needs the back purging to prevent the granulation. Without it, it also hurts the corrosion resistance of stainless.

No worries I was just JK. But I did cut, grind, tack and polish every exhaust system myself.

i believe for the inside he just cleaned it up with a tiny grinder to smooth it out.

not a whole bunch of tools in there - just old fashioned metal work.

i can't complain.

if they really do come out with their own tl exhaust that would be awesome. they are working on a turbo kit for the fa20 and a downpipe for the new m4 at the moment. not sure where the TL program fits inbetween there lol

You need a dual exhaust for an X pipe. The TL has a single exhaust from factory.
