Exhaust upgrade

I want to upgrade part of my exhaust system to make it sound louder and better. I want it louder but not obnoxiously loud or anything, just a nice sound to it. I am wondering if it will affect the back pressure of the exhaust system, whether I get a muffler/resonator delete or put in a better mid-muffler/end mufflers. Will this affect the back pressure negatively or cause any performance/engine running issues? I don't want to cause any problems by doing this.

Also, does anyone know mufflers will sound good on an '05 TL 6-speed that are relatively inexpensive? looking to upgrade the sound without spending too much

I'm ditching my xlr8 for tsudo. There are zero back pressure problems with any of these systems.

A mid muffler delete is very conservative and cheap way to go. The best setup is a full cat back system

Search for stage 1 and stage 2 exhaust. Lots of good history on this topic.

Agreed. Sounds better, drops some weight and frees up a bit of flow.

After that, I say Jpipe and HFPC's. Kind of expensive but improves performance as well. The 3G stock jpipe/downpipe is pretty restrictive.

For having such a pretentious name, their tail pipes look the most out of place of any non-autozone brand. I cannot stomach their aesthetic.

We did a mid muffler and resonator delete. That is it. A little louder than stock, sounds good, and no drone. Also have a CAI.

Based on your location, a couple winters of driving should put enough holes in your exhaust to make it louder....

Just start with the mid-muffler delete and swapping the resonator for a Dynomax or Magnaflow. Just changing those parts or the mufflers without increasing the diameter of the exhaust pipes won't really get you any more power though.

Couple of guys here have done the Stage 2 and Stage 3 Exhaust mods which seem to provide descent results in the sound department. I haven't heard of any check-engine lights or engine problems with those mods.

Did a Stage 3 a couple of years ago, no problem at all. And it does sound a whole lot better. Still not quite as loud as I would want, but better than stock.
