Exhaust Help Please, Trying to get rid of drone?

Hey AZ, i was running the Stage 3 exhaust and was pretty satisfied with the way it sounded but really liked the Greddy EVO 2 mufflers and they way they looked. I found a pair and threw then on. They drone from 1.5 to 3k RPMs was more than i wanted so i was told to put a AERO resinator on and did so. It was exactly the same as when the Dynomax one was one. I really like the looks of the Greddy mufflers but dont want the drone. Is my only option to just go back to the stage 3 set up? Are there other mufflers that i could get that would produce less drone? What setup should i go with ? Any input or ideas would be awsome. Thanks again AZ.

i feel your displeasure concerning the drone issue. i to was quite satified w/ the cosmetic exterior of Evo2 exhaust, however, fell victim to "drone monster". in the end, i sold my jpipe/test as well as the exhaust, bolted on the stock and introduced a stage 3 exhaust. for me, at this point of the game, i am very pleased w/ outcome. am i missing the additional hp's....yes, but i don't mind the lil G35 gurgle w/ this stage 3.

my advice would be, if your dead set on keeping the evo 2 muffs, re introduc mid muffs and keep the resonater.....that might lessen or delete the drone. in retrospect, your going to have to end chopping up the exhaust...don't know if its all worth keeping the evo fart cans. good luck.

If i take the Greddy mufflers off, should i put the stock ones back on or get some other brand? Also should i leave the Aero res on it or put the Dynomax back on?

Put both the Aero resonator, and the dynomax resonator on.

I bougth the Greddy's form Rooki, and acutally liked them until I went on a 6hr one way trip earlier this week to NC. OMG let me say it was very annoying especially driving at constant rpm of 2500.
I rather not hack up the pipes so I'm not sure what I'm gonna do. My plans were to get precat deletes as well as the new XLR8 Jpipe, not sure about what cat/test pipe yet, but could only imagine how much worse that would be.
Sorry 06SilverTL for blabbing on you thread, but what if you drill a hole on the bottom of the tips and get silencers that fit?
So you just have the mufflers on the stock piping?

Stock RES and stock mid-muff do the best at killing the drone but will leave you some sound. To put the mid-muff back, you will have to cut off the front of the GReddy y-pipe. I've been riding like this for about 8 weeks and love it....

a stage 3 exhaust will give you a much better sound (similar to the g35), however will not increase HP. This involves removing the mid-muffler and swapping out the stock resonator with a dynomax resonator. This is very cost effective. If you are looking for someothing a bit more loud and with a HP increase itll cost you...

if you want to get rid of drone, get a J-pipe.

I have the xlr8 exhaust and am waiting for the j pipe thats on its way. Now will I need to tack weld the cone on to the exhaust and install the j pipe to get rid of the drone completely or will adding the j pipe alone do it?

i hate to be the brunt of bad news but adding a jpipe will not eliminate the drone, it may lessen the drone (depending on who you ask) but in the end you will still hav it. i had jpipe/testpipe and the evo2 thinking the same thing b/c some one told be it will eliminate my drone problem....both he and i was wrong. another theory is after "breaking" the jpipe or evo in it will lesson the drone, again that did not hold true for me. (it may hav given the perception of being quieter due to over exposure to the sound, hearing being acclimitizing...etc.)

i hav stage 3, and loving it! perfect 4 my setup. knowing the extra "umff" is there when i need it but when i don't need it, lays dorment. Stage 3 FTW!!
