Stage 1.
Least noticeable in exhaust note increase.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe. Everything else remains stock.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $30-$60 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 2.
A tad louder than stage one, a bit more pronounced tone.
Configuration:
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Magnaflow resonator part# 10416.
Magnaflow resonator is a 14" long resonator, which dampens and changes the note of the stock exhaust a bit more, thus you get a bit more loudness/tone.
Cost: Magnaflow resonator costs around $60. Install ranges from $60 -$90 w/ aluminized pipping.

Stage 3.

(Tone result TBA)
Stock exhaust.
Remove mid-muffler. Replace with 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with Dynomax resonator part# WLK-24215.
Dynomax resonator is a 12" long resonator, which is a bit shorter and less dampening than the magnaflow resonator, thus it should give you a bit more loudness/tone than stage 2.
Cost: Dynomax resonator costs around $40. Install ranges from $60 - $90 w/aluminized pipping.

Stage 4.
Loudest setup out of all 3. Has a bit of a rasp, similar to M3 exhaust setup.
Stock exhaust.
Remove Mid-muffler. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Remove stock resonator. Replace with a 2.5" straight pipe.
Cost: Can be anywhere from $40 - $60.

Note: If you live in a climate that is prone to rain, snow, rust, Stainless steel pipping is highly recommended.
This also does not prevent you from passing smog, as it does not alter the characteristics of the catalytic converters, but it does not mean that this is street legal either as it does alter the stock setup of the exhaust.

"marketing"... blame mike lmfao

technically the greddy catback would be a stage 4 with upgraded mufflers... but in reality it is JUST A CATBACK... aka better than stage 1.2.3.4 mods

"stages" are all just crap. I hate when people ask me what stage is my turbo setup on my accord. Who came out with that BS in the first place? I guess it works well for a company marketing different setups offering varying power increases for a particular vehicle.

Pretty much what it is. Kinda like Lexus and others You know each class has a higher number, meaning more power. or some sort of change. ie. BMW 328, 335, 396

I don't know if it still works like this but the last two digits in the BMW model number used to refer to the engine size. 328 = 2.8 liter. 335 = 3.5 liter... etc.

Take a deep breath man, I don't think it was intentional.

I think Aznbo187 started tinkering with his exhaust. Didn't like the first try so much and tried something else.

To make his posts make sense he "named" them in stages. By the time he figured he needed to go custom, there were Stage 1 - Stage 4 (i.e try #1 thru try #4).

He sure didn't "market" any of the "stages". He gave the ideas and the opinions for free.

The "names" (which were really chronological iterations) just stuck as an easy way to describe a few modifications to the stock exhaust. And it works (even if it is a *little* pretentious); If someone says "I've got the Stage 3 Exhaust" most of regulars here know exactly what they mean.

A lot of the models, that is true. But they don't all follow that anymore. 330 is a 3.0 liter. 335 is a 3.0 liter twin turbo. 525 is a 2.5 liter I6. 540i is a 4.4 liter v8 and so on....

wow you guys are all getting revved up for nothing.

the STAGES we have are just levels of SOUND.

1) yes, X_stage is bullshit, and i'm pretty sure it got hyped from some video games and the terms just caught on. - this is referring to the size of your forced induction and some other mods

2) the STAGES we use regarding the exhaust is ONLY for the exhaust note. No gains unless you also happened to swap out your rear for a cat back.

so everybody put away your guns and CHILLLLz

imo everybody just stop playing those stupid racing games and you'll be THAT much smarter...honestly...Stage I II III IV V...LOLZ; aftermarket companies name stages for their own upgrades ~ i.e. mopar has stages in how much modding you do, but those mods are completely different from one company to the next

I noticed in your posts you have headers coming soon. Just curious. How are you going to install headers on a 3G TL? It has no exhaust manifold. Unless you have after market heads or are going to install them, the stock TL will not accept headers.

Please explain or better yet, show a picture of these headers.

Thanks.

His signature is for a 2003 TL-S; they've got headers.

Which, BTW david-s, may mean these stock exhaust hacks might not osund the same on a 2G.
