Dynamat to lessen exhaust note in cabin???

I am wondering if any one has dynamat'd their trunk and behind the rear seats to lessen cabin noise from an aftermarket exhaust.

I just installed the non-resonated XLR8 cat back and there is quite a bit of cabin noise at lower rpms...between idle and about 2800. I'll post another thread for a full review, but for now lets just say it sounds amazing. Kind of like an extremely angry bumble bee on steroids

My options as far as I know right now are to install a resonator or try dynomat, but I don't want to waste my money on the dynamat if it won't help. The reason I ask about dynamat is I love how the exhaust sounds outside the car.

Help?

so you just want everyone outside the car to hear the exhaust.....

not exactly, I just don't want my brains or my passengers brains to rattle when I accelerate under normal driving conditions.

i would think dynamat would lessen the blow....plus keep out other outside noises....

Dynamat will only have a marginal effect on exhaust drone. My trunk is lined with Dynamat Extreme and it did help reduce rattles and now closes with a solid feel. I also get better base response. But it didn't do much for road noise. I don't have an exhaust on the TL but from my experience you will be better off with a resonator.

I lined mine with dynomat extreme, it helped a little bit (not worth the cost)

I would also try a resonator, like the Aero AR25. Works like a charm...

resonator is your only option...the dynamat will keep everything else still so yo will hear your exhaust clearer, but it wont reduce the noise output inside the car, it isnt really worth putting dynamat...

i just installed an alpine type r sub and i had to dynamat the trunk, rear deck and behind the seats...

i am waiting for the atlp exhaust...so i wont be able to comment on the dynamat until i get the exhaust

It seems everyone is doing it for audio purposes. Not exhaust sound purposes...hmm. I was afraid of this. I can distinctly tell the sound is coming from the back of the car (obviously), Hopefully some others can chime in. I appreciate the feedback thus far everyone!

As stated above dynomat is not going to help that much. Just get the aero 25 resonator and that should substaintially help less cabin drone.

I noticed this too, my drone got a little bit less annoying after installing my ATLP J-Pipe.

Stillhere, thats a pretty good idea, I'm going to get in contact with him. See what happens, some how I figure getting one put in might be cheaper though.

Any one put a resonator in place of the 3rd cat? That would be pretty perfect in my book! Only problem is I'd want to keep the flanges so I can install a j-pipe a little later.

I dynamatted my entire trunk floor, area under the backseat and wheel wells, after driving around with my greddy evo II's for a while. Sound dampening was very little to almost nothing at all.
Resonator, j-pipe and test pipe all contribute to reducing drone significantly, but there will still be some drone.
Someone here re-installed the factory res on the evo II, and they said the drone was gone.

The Jshift test pipe is resonated...

^^Only problem is its not 2.5"...but then again I'm not sure what would have more back pressure, a 2.5 resonator or a 2.25 resonated test pipe.

To be honest, the drone doesn't bother me that much any more. I've put about 1500 miles on the exhaust and I think it got less drony. I hardly even have my radio on now as I am listening to the music my cars ass makes

I am not going to dynamat the car upon everyones recommendations. So thank you for the help. I'm going to leave the exhaust as is...for now. Its pretty loud and sexy as hell outside the car and I love it. I'll live with the drone so I can scare small children as I drive by.
