Couple of questions on mods

Hello Everyone -

First thanks in advance for any help given. I have been on this site researching and it has got my car to where it is today. I plan to further my mods with the following.

IM Thermo Gaskets - Do you notice a difference with these?

Ported/Polish IM - Again big difference? If so I am about 1 hr outside of chicago is there a reliable shop to get this done at? For those you have done this, how much roughly?

Also UR Pulley (stock size) - I have read alot of good things on this forum. Anyone chime in about any negative they may have experienced.

Again thanks for all the help......

IM thermo gaskets - I monitor intake air temps and noticed no decrease in temps after installing both the IM and throttle body gaskets. However, I have the "ultimate cooling mod" which greatly increases air flow through the engine bay by removing the cowl and plastic trim in the engine bay. Someone without this might benefit more. In my experience, these spacers simply delay heatsoak, not eliminate it. I wouldn't recommend investing in these.

Ported/Polished IM - Most agree this is valueable but might not be the best bang for the buck mod. The 3.7 TL manifold w/ZDX throttle body mod is gaining traction though. The 3.7 TL IM is already polished and has a higher capacity than our 3.2. I'd read up on it if I were you. I pulled the trigger on it and it's worked out well for me. I'd do it again.

UR Pulley - I did this as well and would do it again. Significant weight loss both static and dynamic. It's not a night and day mod, but few are for the TL. Worth the money IMO. A few folks believe that the stock pulley has harmonic dampening properties that aren't present on the UR pulley, and therefore, installing a UR pulley will somehow damage the engine over the long term. However, I've yet to hear of any actual stories of this. Mine's been on for 10K miles or so and I havne't had any problems.

Good luck

just to reiterate what this fine gentleman said: they are not night and day mods.

True. None of these are as significant as your exhast mods for example. But if you've done those (which it looks like you have from your sig) then they're next on the list. Unfortunately the $$$/gains ratio is pretty crappy.

I don't see any reference to PCD's or HFPC's on your sig. I'd look into one of those before any of the other three you mentioned.

Thanks, I have been trying to follow the 3.7 manifold/ build thread. I saw something about RPMs jumping after the install, is this true?

Also I know I would need the too plate (believe Thats what it is) for the manifold since I have an 05 and not a 07/08/type s. Both the intake manifold and zdx bolt right up with modifications correct? Like I said I have been trying to follow it.

Also for the hfpc's will they present the same rasp issue as the pcd's? If not I would invest...

Thanks again

Yes on the IM cover for the 05. That's an additional $200 or so unfortunately. But it looks sweet And yes, the ZDX TB and TL IM bolt up just dandy.

I haven't had any problem with RPM's jumping. It's been running fine for me. But I've only had mine completed for a few days. No CEL's either.

The HFPC's have considerably less rasp compared to the PCD's but they do open the exhaust up a bit more which can come with a bit more rasp. I have almost no rasp but a fair bit of drone on startup. Once it warms up (1 minute or so) it goes away. I have a stock catback however. Your exact note would likely be different since you have a different setup.

I have a decent amount of drone for about a minute after start up as well. Have you dynoed since getting the new TB and IM? Is there a big difference?

Nope, no dyno. Unless you count a butt dyno I haven't noticed any significant sound differences with mine.
