Comptech SS Story

Long story short...I got my car back yesterday from the body shop. About 6 weeks ago my car was hit in front of my house while I was sleeping. So glad to get it back, but before it was hit it was due for the A1 service, so this morning I take it in to the dealer to get the oil changed. While having it in, I figured I could have the tech throw in the comptech ss that I ordered online. I was considering taking this option because I am really busy right now and being able to take advantage of the dealership covering my tranny for sure if something were to happen in the future. (ie: the tranny going bad, and them blaming me for DIY on the SS.) So my advisor says he will call me and give me a price on the install after he talks to his tech. About 30 min later I get a call and he quotes me 4.5-5.5hrs To do the install with a price tag of $480+. Is it me or are they effin out of their mind?
I know I can do this myself the DIY thread for the ss is perfect, I was just looking at my schedule and the warranty aspect of it.

4.5 - 5.5 hours?!? I did the install myself, and i've never done it before. It took me 2 - 3 hours MAX. They are definitely trying to steal your money. if you really don't have time, get someone on the forum to do it for you. It'll cost less...much less.

It does take some time. 400 bucks is ridiculous though. I was going to have them do my rear deck lid. Same reasons, just didnt really have the time and thought they could just throw it on. I thought "how much could it be?" Fucking 250 bucks they wanted. So that weekend I was at the hanger installing it. Took less than 30 minutes....

The SS mod is the easiest mod i've done so far. Just be careful removing the panels and trim. 2hours - 3hours max install.

If you were in New York, I'd do it for a LOT less. I think you should get the tools and try it yourself. It's really easy.

hey man, maybe they don't realize that it's not a mod to the tranny, but just a sort of "extension" to be loctited and screwed onto the OEM lever. I've done several of them and it never took more than a couple of hours...and that's taking my time.

Does anyone know if the Comptech SS fits in the Type S? I doubt that it has been tried yet, at least by someone besides a comptech employee.

Don't see why not. I highly HIGHLY doubt the Type-S is any different than any other TL in this regard. That's like asking if the Type-S has the same window regulators as a non Type-S.
