Changed my air filter to K&N...all by myself!

Recently sold another 2004 TL. Customer came in and said every once in awhile the CEL would come on for running lean. So we took apart the air box and low and behold there were 2 dead mice in there But my dad threw them away before I could take a picture, sorry! Anyways, I decided to take a peak at my filter. Well my filter made the mouse filter look like brand new. But then my dad threw it away before I could get a pic of it. And CarQuest couldn't get me a K&N until the next morning so I just put the mouse filter in my car for the night. But my original filter was completely black and gunky on the bottom! So here's pics:

Pics of the mouse filter, so imagine this but waaay dirtier...that was my filter. Woops.

That was the other TL I sold. Everything else in it looked OK and he hasn't called back so I think that fixed the CEL. My car was a prior flood from NH. Other than replacing the timing belt and water pump at 55K miles, I haven't had a single issue. It now has 60K on it.

ah gotcha...how does a car get flooded in NH? lol. Anyways, keep up the good work. There are lots of good DIY's here, learn how to do things yourself so you dont need to rely on sketchy car shops that try to take advantage of girls.

It counts. Even if you're helping him or he's helping you. I would give anything for a girl to be interested in working on the car. My girlfriends hated the fast car 90% of the time except the rare time we would set up a race with an exotic or something of that nature. Not only would they have nothing to do with it, I would have to work on it when they were out shopping so it didn't take into our time.

well then damn, i've helped on a lot of car projects for my cars (under the hood, fenders and stereo) with my brother. part of it was interest, the other part, it was my car, so i better damn well help. really i would feel bad, so i would naturally help b/c it was my car. its all good. used to hang around my brother and dad when they worked on the car stuff when i was younger. so...i dont' mind getting a little dirty. hell all modesty gets thrown out the door when you got to pee in the open without a potty in sight! guys got that easy.

Not to bust your bubble but Acura had a service flash out warning people about using a filter like that. The increased air flow is ok, but not the lack of filtration.

Leominster, MA. Too funny! Back in January I flew from Idaho out to Boston and took a train to Leominster to buy my 07 TL-S 6MT. 112,000 miles but only $15,500. So far I'm lovin' it!

Yes I run a small car dealership for my father, he has another job so I'm the HBIC. Sales, accounting, changing batteries and air filters, I do what I can without breaking my nails :P Idk my car's history really, just that it was in a flood in NH (prob drove through a crazy flash flood puddle) and the people that owned it before me bought it with 35K miles and it was already branded reconstructed. I bought it with 45K on April 25, 2009. I used to have a 2003 TL but sold it. Looking to get a job as a pharmaceutical sales rep so I can get an E-Class coupe.

A bit of professional advice, from someone who has been in sales for years...do some more research on pharma sales. I have had several clients, friends and an ex-girlfriend who all worked as pharma / med device reps and they all have said that it is not the same as it used to be. Lots of companies are cutting back employees, cutting bonuses, reducing benefits etc. Veterinary supply sales believe it or not is really stable and pays well if you can break into it.

My company is currently hiring salespeople, if you're interested just shoot me a PM or something.

Back on topic, nice ride and I'm glad you work on your own stuff! I have to handle most of my girlfriend's car related issues for her.

Yes that's excatly what I want to do is veterinary pharm sales! I haven't really found anything my area for it though. Not a huge rush right now because I run the dealership by myself so if I'm not here, no one is going to be here and that's a tough way to sell cars. I don't collect a paycheck here so no one is going to want to work for free and my dad is still a couple years from retirement. I want a goddamn E coupe though! I would also accept a CL550.

I was about to say why settle for an E class when there's the CL. I had just gotten approved for the loan two months ago for a CL65 Brabus when the friend I was buying it off of totaled it. It's amazing how cheap you can find those cars after a few years. I was going to pay $32,000 for a 704hp twin turbo V12 CL65 with 60,000 miles and a warranty past 100,000 miles.

I'm guessing more than once they've ridden in the passenger seat with you and had delusions of grandeur when they got in the driver's seat.
